Product Description

It is April 1964 and one week before Hitler's 75th birthday. Xavier March, a detective of the Kriminalpolizei, is called out to investigate the discovery of a dead body in a lake near Berlin's most prestigious suburb. As March discovers the identity of the body, he uncovers signs of a conspiracy that could go to the very top of the German Reich. And, with the Gestapo just one step behind, March, together with an American journalist, is caught up in a race to discover and reveal the truth - a truth that has already killed, a truth that could topple governments, a truth that will change history.

This entirely imaginary account of how Nazi Germany would have been like in the event of Germany winning the Second World War.
It is convincing and a further reminder of the thankfulness we all should feel, including Germans, that the Nazis lost.
An especially interesting aspect of the book is the post war coverup of the Nazi Death Camps and the hubris of some of the worst in power.

Harris uses a clever narrative device to relate the greatest atrocity of the 20th Century, and to show that massive crime is still massive crime from any perspective. Like Pompeii, Officer and a Spy, and Enigma, his fictional portrayal brings History to life.

This is masterfully written novel that explores the possibility that Hitler and his henchmen won WWII. This is a very scary description of life in the alternative state. This is electrifying and well researched. I do enjoy Robert Harris.
