I enjoyed this book and there were some tremendously funny moments but I felt it was by far the weakest book of the series. I hovered between 3 and 4 stars, but there were so many things I didn't like I settled on 3.
The new characters, and in particular the mini elves, look like they are going to be a great additions to the cast of characters.
Unfortunately (and it nearly made me reduce my rating to 2 stars) I really didn't like the treatment of the loss of memory of Astrid. There was no explanation or investigation of how it happened, no explanation or investigation as to how her memory came back. It was simply a plot device.
I am hoping that in future books we get to know Samuel better but to me in this book I understood the implications of the abduction but I didn't feel any empathy for him, the character.
While writing this review I realised that my major issue with this book was its lack of focus. It had two options, 1) baby kidnapped and story is about parents actions to recover baby, or 2) story is about baby's actions with parents efforts are going on in background. These story tried to do both.
