Product description

Product Description

Jude Garrity visits the farmers market every Saturday. As an environmental engineering student, he’s curious about living off the grid and sustainable agriculture.

And one particular farmer.

Hudson Oliva has worked hard to support his commune, where queer people live without fear of harm or retribution. When Jude asks pointed questions about living there, Hudson realizes he needs to be honest about his home. Few people know what the farm is actually about, but Jude is insistent.

Jude moves to Kaleidoscope Gardens, however his sexual hang-ups make it hard to adjust. He’s an uptight virgin living among people who have sex freely and with multiple partners. When Jude finally loosens up, Hudson is flooded with emotions. Falling for Jude wasn’t part of Hudson’s life plan. But when vindictive rumors about the commune begin to spread, love might be all he has left.

2.0 out of 5 stars So very meh. 22 May 2017

This book is hobbled by poor writing and questionable emotional logic. Instead of tolerance for sexual variation, they were actually going to ask Jude to leave if he didn't get busy with his housemates in public. Let that sink in a sec. "We're so free and embracing. But if you're not quite ready to join in our random autumnal orgiastic holiday, there's the door."
Ick.
And even without that problem, the book was just...long. Lots of internal monologue. "Oh, I want him. But he's rejecting me! I know he has Issues with a capital I, but how shall I make it through the day, etc," for pages and pages.
I finally gave up at around the 80% mark. And now I see that the next book is about the same couple, and I can't imagine what there will be to say about them for another entire book.
3.0 out of 5 stars Good story 4 February 2016

It was good--I liked the representation of the farm, and the way the characters were drawn. It felt really rushed toward the end, though, like a lot of information had to be crammed in before the book ended. Also, I hope one thing is corrected before the other books come out; when Jude was the main focus of the story, then Hudson had his turn, there was no break, no way to tell the point of view was changing. A double space between paragraphs would have helped. Here I was, reading merrily along, then all of a sudden, here comes another point of view. It drew me out of the story.
5.0 out of 5 stars ... this book on my Kindle for 12 hours - good today was a day off 30 January 2016

I have had this book on my Kindle for 12 hours - good today was a day off, as I could hardly put it down.
The book was a lovely read, though not the lighthearted read I might have expected. The blurb describes the plot perfectly, however the agonizing about ones role I didn't see coming. The book has not so much an outward enemy as an internal one, and I enjoyed this aspect.

It is well written, and well worth the time and money.

2.0 out of 5 stars Offensive and problematic in ways that aren't immediately obvious, but Asexuality is not tolerated or accepted. Sickened me. 29 October 2016

There were a lot of things I liked about this book and I thought it would be a model of inclusive writing. Unfortunately, it failed miserably. While it did address many alternative sexualities, it was disturbing in one major way that I was unable to get past. Much of the book was focused on pressuring a severely repressed, previously abused young man into accepting and embracing sexual advances that he was not comfortable with. Supposedly the community he joined and who embraced him was LGBTQIA-inclusive. I'm sorry, but pressuring an individual to submit to sexual advances in order to not be thrown out of the commune is abusive. And it is most definitely not inclusive of the "A" in LGBTQIA - Asexual individuals. I was sickened by the counter abuse demonstrated by the MCs of this story.

Love the writing and the characters. This was something new to me as far as the commune and such. Enjoed and will be reading the next one.
