Product description

Product Description

Tired of their careers in the oil industry, Corinna Weyreter and Gjalt van der Zee sailed away from the rat race in search of freedom and adventure in the fabled South Pacific. Taking only what could justify its space on their 41-foot yacht, they abandoned materialism to discover how little a person really needs in order to be content. Trading with fishermen in Belize, learning desert island survival from the lone inhabitant of a Polynesian atoll, swimming with humpback whales beside the coral island of Niue, attending the wedding of a Chief’s son in Vanuatu ... they entered an enchanting new world. But Earth is under threat from humanity. During the period when the human population doubled, animal species plummeted by more than a quarter. 41% of all oceans have been strongly affected by Man’s activities, 19% of our cora l reefs have died, and 29% of fisheries have collapsed. The young couple found a beautiful world beyond the urban sprawl and rampant consumerism of mankind, but its future is fragile. In Far Out, Corinna takes us into that disappearing world and shows us its fragility with sensitive first-hand knowledge.

2.0 out of 5 stars The book makes for pretty shallow reading for what is a brave and life-changing event....sailing around the world. 22 April 2017

Real writers are real people. I want my heroine, whether real or fiction to show some self-awareness of their poor mental well- being. The author operated in her own private world intent on showing how inept others around her operated....particularly her sailing partner. I became annoyed at her simple descriptive writing because it showed a lack of ability to see and be seen.

Corrina is a good writer. I enjoyed the book a lot. I will by her next book. Her writing is really entertaining. I just hope she will leave off all of the quotes about "man killing the earth" before each chapter and all of the Global Warming preaching.
I bought the book to read about sailing not to be preached to. Say that you believe in Global Warming at the start of the book and then let it go.
Like I said, I really enjoyed the book.
5.0 out of 5 stars The life of ocean sailing 1 February 2016
By C R Moore - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I loved this book. I must now get a copy with photographs. It takes you half a world away to the south Pacific. It also removes you from your own frantic life to the world of ocean sailing, the etiquette of mooring and getting along with other sailors and, early on, negotiating the Panama canal. It's told sparely and beautifully. Get the hard copy book if you can, so you can enhance your imagination with pictures.
