The film promises brand new characters, stunning spectacle and jaw-dropping revelations but also ties in with the original stories. The Magic’s Back! Five Things you Already know About ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’ – and Why you Need to See it!:
Back to Hogwarts ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’ takes us back to Hogwarts, the iconic school of witchcraft and wizardry attended by Harry Potter. If the familiar locations – the castle walls, the classrooms, the Great Hall – give you the feels, the sight of Newt (Hufflepuff) and new characters like Zoë Kravitz’s Leta Lestrange (Slytherin) learning the magical ropes adds a fresh twist.
A young Dumbledore
Another thrill of returning to Hogwarts is getting to meet a young Albus Dumbledore. Played by Jude Law, Dumbledore is a contemporary of Grindelwald, who recruits his friend and one-time student Newt Scamander for a covert mission to Paris – an echo of those the future Headmaster of Hogwarts will entrust to Harry Potter.
Spell it Out
‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’ is filled to the brim with action set-pieces enlivened by that ‘Harry Potter’ trademark – spectacular spells. Yet the ante is upped, as it is no longer young wizards creating the alchemy. Expect complex and astonishing spells to take your breath away.
The Wand they all Want
Think back to ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2’ and you’ll remember the vital role played by the Elder Wand, the most powerful wand in the Wizarding World, carried by Dumbledore and Voldemort. This time round, Grindelwald is still master of the Elder Wand, so expect magical mayhem on the grandest scale.
An Iconic Stone
‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’ also takes things back to where it all began. The Philosopher’s Stone, destroyed by Harry Potter at the end of the first film, is still intact in 1927 and being used by Nicolas Flamel, the legendary Parisian wizard who created it and may have, in fact, achieved immortality. As much as things change, they stay the same – in Flamel’s case, quite literally…

The latest instalment in the hugely successful Harry Potter film franchise has arrived on 3D Blu-ray. The movie itself does a nice job in pushing along the “Fantastic Beasts” storyline, part 2 of what is believed to be (according to J.K. Rowling) a five film series. As to be expected with middle films in trilogies etc. the end is only the beginning. Though it’s not the most amazing or exciting film so far it definitely does the job. The picture quality is first class, the audio bone shaking when required and the 3D image worth the extra money if you have the tech. I thoroughly enjoyed this next chapter in the world of wizards and am already looking forward to the next one. Recommended.
