Sometimes I feel that some writers think their readers are dumb, or unable to comprehend what is going on. We readers don't need every little thing spelt out, we are very good at getting it.
This story has so much potential, however, that potential has been squandered. I will skim through the next instalment to find out what happens with Fallon and Luca, however, I won't be reading anymore of this author, she has lost me.
1.5 stars for me. The story idea would probably get more stars.
I liked Fallon to a point but by the end of the book she had me wanting to slap her. So what if you fall for a guy who just so happens to be a mafia underboss - learn to deal with it.
I loved Luca from the start - he is one hot alpha male. Yes he hides things from Fallon but you know he’s only doing it to keep her safe.
The characters are very real and Soraya does an excellent job at pulling your emotions out of you and making you feel what the characters feel. Written from a duel point of view, it is never confusing and the story flows well this way.

Luca spotted Fallon 6 times that first night, when their eyes met across a crowed nightclub. Fallon Michaels has no idea who this gorgeous man she's flirting with is, but she wants him. They meet again "accidentally" in her favorite coffee shop. Luca's job is to get in - get information - then get out. Things don't happen that way for Luca as there is something about Fallon that peaks his interest, a pull he feels towards her, he can't keep away.
The longer they date the longer Fallon is unknowingly drawn into his world. A world that Luca intends to keep aside form Fallon at all costs. Fallon makes Luca feel normal, human even in his dark corruptive world of crime and rivalry.
As their love for each other deepens, Luca's growing anxiety over keeping Fallon safe and away from his secret life, increases. Fallon is his heart and soul and he can't bear the thought of anything or anyone hurting her and he knows that Fallon wouldn't be able to accept or handle his true life.
By being with Luca, Fallon is already a target but she is completely oblivious to the life she's has been thrust in the middle of.
Fallon has her own doubts and worries surrounding her relationship, his cagey secretive and withdrawn, does she want to end this before she's in too deep? how well does she know the man she's fallen in love with?
This book had me filled with lust, passion, intrigue and total gut-wrenching fear. Fallon is a sweet naive young woman, who falls for the man wearing the invisible mask. I hope she can still love that man when the mask is removed and she learns all there is to know about the dark and dangerous man who claimed her heart. I cried with Fallon as she tried to come to terms with things she found out and her internal struggles trying to accept his life but I wanted to hit her at the same time willing her to make the right decisions.
I can't wait for the next book in this series, to go on the next passion filled intense ride with these two and the rest of the characters who walk beside them on their journey. I would love to hear more about Adriano, Camilla, Biagio and the rest of the family.
For Luca cannot come quick enough...
Fallon lives a drama-free calm life until she literally runs into Luca at the club one night. Life as she knew it is over. She is immediately drawn to him. Luca feels that same draw, all the while telling himself not to fall for her. Fallon notices things that seem a little "off" and is suspicious of Luca's business trips but she tries her best to explain them away. However, they just keep adding up. When she decides she's had enough and it's time for them to talk, all hell breaks loose and then she is in a fight for her life.
Luca can't tear himself away from her even though he knows the danger he's putting her in. When certain events unfold, what choice will he make? Will he do everything he can to keep her safe? Or will he let business come first?

I really enjoyed the interaction between Fallon and Luca, they really seemed to fit together.
The whole premise of the story was interesting, it kept you wanting to read on to see what would happen next and when the secrets would finally be revealed. While there are quite a few maffia style books out there, Soraya managed to still keep it unique in a way that made it a good read.
The only thing that bothered me a little was that at some times the descriptions and metaphors seemed a little long-winded to me and at other times I felt like the scenes needed just a little more, but that could easily be just a personal preference.
Can't wait to read the next book in the series!
Recommend this to everyone looking for a good maffia story and loves their suspense.
At times i loathed Luca and what he was doing to Fallon, and i could totatly see where Fallon was coming concerning her thoughts for Luca. But then my loyalties shifted like a seismic earthquake - yeah i know that sounds dramatic - but what happens in the last 10 or so chapters changes how you will look at Luca and all that he has done beforehand. I do not want to spoil it but you will be left at points with your mouth hanging open wanting to scream at the characters and what they are going through but in a great way. My only issue was i got a bit lost on the hierarchy concerning Luca and his colleagues and i wondered at times if Fallon understood what Luca was saying to her in the other language he uses in his job. Soraya has wrote a book that kept me guessing right up until the end and then left me bereft when the story was finished.
I like Fallon and Luca together. I like how they fall in love and are devoted to each other. In order to protect Fallon, Luca does not tell her that he is in the syndicate and therefore he can not share all of himself with her. Fallon, comes across as someone who would not be able to handle Luca's lifestyle regardless of the fact that they love each other.
When the truth comes out Fallon cuts ties with Luca because she said he broke her trust. However, we find out that Fallon had secrets too that she did not share with Luca that has a knock on affect that impact both their lives.
Definitely worth a read.
