Successful international artist, Natalie, comes to sapphire Bay, for some peace and to finish a painting. She is half owner of a cottage that once belonged to her late grandparents.
Finding out that the cottage already has a house guest is a little intriguing, but the house is built as two attached apartments, so it can work.
Ex cop and now a bestselling crime novelist, Gabe, has plans to finish his manuscript and avoid anyone knowing his whereabouts. Because someone has been stalking him and it feels increasingly threatening.
A number of incidents and threats slowly build a feeling of unease and with this suspenseful backdrop, the wary pair learn to trust in each other and slowly begin to fall in love.
I agree with another's review that it was disappointing that there was no expression of a physical relationship between the two characters. Even a hint that they had one would have made the story feel more realistic. Despite that lack, it was good story-telling.

Gabe, a writer & former NY cop comes to Sapphire Bay to finish his book & escape a stalker. He also suffers from PTSD. Natalie, an artist returns to her grandparents home, after their death, to paint for an exhibition she's having overseas. Her paintings were stolen so she comes back with to the Bay feeling safer & to recoup. Her mother has rented their cottage to Gabe however they have separate quarters. He doesn't want the involve Natalie in his issues. There's a threat & some suspense involved. We are also introduced to other characters. If you like a clean romantic slightly suspenseful read you'll enjoy this

Well written but lacking charisma
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 August 2019Verified Purchase
I was a little sad about this book. Having read another of Leanna Morgan's books, which I had enjoyed, I had no hesitation in getting this books when I found it. Sadly this one didn't live up to the previous read.
I've been trying to put my finger on exactly what it was that irked me about this book, and I've come to the conclusion that the couple simply had no chemistry. I think it was half way through before things got even remotely heated between them which was a shame, because the book was certainly well written, there was an interesting cast of characters and the plot had a lot of potential.
Unfortunately even that was let down by some rather unrealistic events. The one that irritated me he most was the male leads constant determination to 'protect' the female character. She didn't need protecting. None of the problems concern her. He's going out of his way to look after a woman he's not even involved with at this point and who isn't on his stalkers radar until he puts her there with his insistence that she might be in danger just because she lives next door. It just wasn't believable.

Good storyline, but underdeveloped
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 December 2020Verified Purchase
A good storyline, but somewhat lacking in development. What seems to be a main part of the story isn't addressed. The synopsis indicates that it's a standalone, but leaves a lot of question marks around one of the issues.
Gabe, an ex detetective turned writer has moved to this quiet location mainly for privacy and anominity.
Natalie moved to Europe to further her career as an artist. Unfortunately, some unpleasant occurences drives her back home.
Gabe and Natalie start off by sharing a cottage, and end up falling in love. Gabe is persued by a mysterious stalker. This side of the story takes up most of the concept whereas Natalie's predicament is brushed upon, but not resolved. The chemistry between them is barely there. The drama towards the end isn't very convincing. It has good prospects, but the pace and the unresolved issues around the paintings are disincentives. It's not something that I would read again.

A great story, easy read.

I really enjoyed this book. A romance book with some suspense thrown in.
A slow romance formed between the two lead characters making it more believable. Gabe, the male lead character, was over protective of Natalie, before any romance started between them, but learning more about the character as you read on, it was clear his protective side was a mix of his original job and past issues that he was still working on.
There was some suspenseful moments in the story line, which kept me hooked.
A predictable but enjoyable ending.
Loved the little quirk of adding the Pecan pie recipe at the end of the book!
Will definitely try another of her books.

Interesting read.

This was an interesting read. It had a nice slow burn romance with realistic characters who had depth and dimensions.
I liked how flawed the characters were and how they were willing to work on themselves to be with each other.
The plot was solid enough and interesting. I did feel towards the end it dragged a tiny bit but I understand the author had much to say in this book.
