Product Description

In a history very different from our own, the Civil War rages on in Texas. Zeppelins fill the air, steam power vehicles battle horses for space on the roads and bodies lay strewn through the wreckage of the Sisters of the Merciful Truth Convent, innocent victims of a local turf war. Three sisters, raised in the convent, emerge from the horror to find their lives of family and devotion over, and their separate lives of crime about to begin.

In lawless times, where faith and love battle doubt and hate, Justice now sees the world from behind the barrel of a gun. She falls in with a handsome and mysterious miscreant as she attempts to carve a place in the ruined world and search for her lost sisters. But when her life of crime catches up to her, Justice will learn the meaning of true love, and family ties.

In this Steampunk history of Texas, a Civil War battles on and unprincipled men attack a convent killing all but three sisters. These three sisters leave what used to be the protection of the convent and make their lives on their own, unfortunately separating in the process.

Each sister attaches herself to a live of crime in one way, shape, or form. One sister, Justice, has made robbery her life. She agrees to one more robbery in order to have the funds to look for her other two sisters. But she never expected to fall for the mysterious man who brings her into his world for her last heist. Then, the law gets the best of her and she quickly learns the things that really matter.

Ashlynn Monroe has written an action packed tale of outlaws, lost innocence and love found when least expected. Interestingly enough, this is the first time I've ever read a Steampunk story. And yet, I was intrigued by the mix of funky technology and Wild West ambiance. At first, I thought the main character, Justice, and her sisters, Purity and Grace, were named so as religious sisters. But even after leaving the convent, these women maintained their allegorical names which made them all the more magnetic.

Jeremiah is an unlikely hero. As instigator for the train heist, one isn't sure if he's honorable or just another man in this war torn time, looking out for number one. But his actions prove that he may be just what Justice needs in her life. Toward the end of the story, things got a little hairy, making me wonder if they'd experience a future much less a happily ever after. But Ms. Monroe navigates the intricacies of the plot with ease and I'll only say that readers should reach the end of the story, as I did, thoroughly satisfied.
