When your boyfriend bets YOU in a poker game, you better know when to run…

Bad enough Jade Frost’s boyfriend drags her to an illegal gambling house. Even worse that he actually threw her into the betting pot during an intense round of poker…and lost. Talk about the perfect excuse for Jade to make him her ex-boyfriend.

Now she supposedly belongs to the ultra rich, extremely gorgeous Shep Prescott. He could have anything he wants yet he seems to be in hot pursuit of her. No matter how rude, how snarky, how impossible she acts, it doesn’t stop him. More like her horrible behavior seems to make him want her even more.

When she finds herself starting to fall for him, Jade’s confused. There’s more to Shep than the carefree rich charmer he portrays. No way could he want a serious relationship with her…or could he?

This was a great albeit slow read, with the most dramatic things happening in the first and last chapters. I stuck with it though and found it satisfying. Although I did find the hero's friends (Shep) who are getting book about them next annoying. They whined like little girls.

Love monica murphy and as is typical for her she delivered another sweet romance. I loved jade and Shep's chemistry and the way they met. There was a slight lag in the middle of the book but it quickly picked up again. If you like college romances than this is for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding... 7 October 2016

I don't know what compelled me to purchase a Y/A story as I don't usually gravitate to this genre...but this story was just so gosh darned cute. I loved 19 y/o Jade Frost and all her teenage sexual hang-ups. She's genuine and adorable and she me made me laugh with her inner dialogue. I loved her sarcasm...she's a spitfire that doesn't succumb easily to flattery or flirting. She see's through guys' motives and isn't easily impressed. She's smart, witty, intelligent and doesn't take much off of anybody. I loved her eye-rolls. She's feisty. Hilarious! But, she has self esteem issues that she tries to hide and cover up with her sassy mouth. She stresses easily.

He's a manwhore and proud of his reputation. Shepard Prescott (21) is a bored, little rich boy from old money. He's spoiled, conceited, pretentious, arrogant and very unhappy. Jade Frost presents a challenge he's never faced before. She see's through him and isn't impressed by him. He's intrigued by her and is the only girl he's ever met that doesn't fall at his feet. For the first time in his life, he stops in his tracks and sit's up and takes notice of a girl. She captures his full attention at every turn...and she isn't even trying. She's so unlike all the other girls he's been with. She doesn't cater to him or flatter him. She's not ditzy or immature. No, she keeps him on his toes with her sarcastic wit. She makes him think! I loved this guy, even though he had an ego the size of Mount Rushmore. Everything about him begins to change when he meets Jade and it's an awakening for him. He begins to see the type of man he is and he doesn't like it. It was pretty great.

This was such a cute story of an arrogant pr!ck who "wins" Jade Frost in a poker game...except she ain't havin' none of it!..(as if!) She won't "pay up" of course because, ya know...she's not stupid. She doesn't even like the A-hole! The first 2/3rd's of this story is all about Shepard chasing Jade --- something that's beneath him. It's about him wearing her down and gaining her trust, which he doesn't understand why he's doing that either. He respects her and, good gawd!... that's never happened before. Seeing a girl more than ONCE is out of character for him too. She begins to matter and that makes him panic. For the first time in his life, he wants to take his time with a girl and get to know her, and cherish the anticipation of a first kiss. It's a fun and entertaining story and it never get's boring. This story was well thought out and well written with strong characters, and it left me with a smile.

Now I was on my way to giving this book at least 4.5 stars but then I came to the end of the book. I feel like there is still so much that could of happened. I was looking forward to reading the whole series but if they are gonna end like this then I think I'll pass.
4.0 out of 5 stars Another book from Monica Murphy that I loved 25 May 2017

After reading and enjoying ‘One week girlfriend’ and ‘Second chance boyfriend’ I decided to read another book from Monica Murphy. This time I choose ‘Fair game’, it’s the first book of ‘The Rules’ series.

And yes, this is another new adult book like there are so many others out there but I really liked it. Just like Drew Callihan from ‘One week girlfriend’, Shep Prescott has something vulnerable that I really like. Monica Murphy knows how to write her guys.

Shep Prescott is a man whore there’s no question about it. But it’s not his fault that he comes from a rich family, that he’s handsome and that all the girls on campus want to have sex with him. Well, not all the girls, there’s one girl that wants nothing to do with him. Her name is Jade Frost and the more that she rejects him, the more Shep wants her. But he soon realizes that Jade could be dangerous to him. Because she makes him feel things he has never felt before.

Jade Frost is mad. Not only on her now ex-boyfriend but also on Shep Prescott. How dare he makes a bet with her boyfriend about her. But the more time they spend together the more Jade has to confess that maybe she’s also one of those girls that fall for Shep Prescott.
But Shep confuses her too, she has never heard before that Shep spends so much time with a girl. Could it be that they share something special? Or is he just playing with her?

The story is told from both POV’s what I really liked. Normally I’m not a big fan of the man being a man whore in my stories but with Shep it didn’t bother me. Once he sees Jade, she’s all that he can think about. A fact that I applauded. I love stories where we can see how a character changes their ‘bad’ ways for love and that’s what Shep did for Jade. Jade was also a lovable character, she had her insecurities about her body and other things but they weren’t too big to distract me from the story. In fact those insecurities made her just more likable to me. In this story we also get to meet Shep’s nephew Tristan and his best friend Grade. Two characters that we can read more about in the following books in the series. They both intrigued me enough to want me to read their stories too.

I just recently discovered Monica Murphy and I'm so glad I came across her books because wow I loved Fair Game. The characters held my attention till the very end. Shep and Jade together led to some sexy and funny moments, they were just adorable together and what I loved was that Murphy gave us point of views from both characters which really helped especially in Sheps case because I probably wouldn't have liked him much if we only had Jade's perspective but thanks to his p.o.v I loved him.

No insta-love thank goodness, although there was an attraction between the two from the get-go, but the romance between the two was a slow burn and happened in a realistic time frame.

Was there cliche moments...yes. Did it follow your typical man-whore guy falling for a girl he never would and changing his way for her...yes BUT it was still an addictive read because Murphy knows how to write great characters with some laugh out loud moments mixed within. So if you love New Adult Romance check this one out.

There are three books in the series each one about a different couple and I can't wait to read Gabe's and Tristan's stories.

Overall Opinion: This was a fun, easy, sexy read. I thought that they were a cute couple. I am always a sucker for the hate-to-love stories, and this didn't disappoint. It was a pretty light read without much drama.

Storyline: This is Jade and Shep's story. They meet when Jade's boyfriend takes her to an illegal gambling house that Shep owns and her boyfriend ends up putting Jade in the pot for a hand that he loses to Shep. Shep is instantly drawn to her because she is unlike any other girl he knows. She is snarky and has no trouble telling him no--which is a first for the uber rich campus "one-and-done" playboy. Eventually with Shep's persistence, he gets through to Jade and they go out on a date. They end up falling in love. With some steamy times and a little bit of family drama, they find their HFN.

POV: This alternated between Jade and Shep's POV

Overall Pace of Story: Good. It was an easy read, and there was never a time that I felt it was slow or was skimming.

H rating: 4 stars. Shep. I liked him and his pursuit of Jade. He was kinda the stereotypical playboy that changes his ways after one encounter with the girl, but I typically enjoy that character.

h rating: 3 stars. Jade. She was ok. I felt like she could've been better (I tend to always be harder on the female...not sure why).

Angst level: Low. No tissues needed.

Heat level: Moderate. The couple has a good bit of steamy times, but I don't feel like it took away from the story.

Closure: This would fall under the HFN category for me. It did have a cute epilogue, but it wasn't enough closure for me. I need some strong commitment people!!
