About the Author

Michael Jenkins MBE served for twenty-eight years in the British Army, rising through the ranks to complete his service as a major. He served across the globe on numerous military operations as an intelligence officer within Defence Intelligence, and as an explosive ordnance disposal officer and military surveyor within the Corps of Royal Engineers. His experiences within the services involved extensive travel and adventure whilst on operations, and also on many major mountaineering and exploration expeditions that he led or was involved in. He was awarded the Geographic Medal by the Royal Geographical Society for mountain exploration and served on the screening committee of the Mount Everest Foundation charity. He was awarded the MBE on leaving the armed forces in 2007 for his services to counter-terrorism. The Failsafe Query is Michael's first novel. He has started work on his second spy thriller, The Kompromat Kill, and hopes to publish it early in 2019 --This text refers to an alternate kindle_edition edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant and Gripping read.

Most spy novels have a comfortable air of familiarity. There is little we don’t know about angst-ridden, morally fallible spooks in raincoats and sharp-suited, gun-toting agents in casinos. Michael Jenkins however, takes a different approach from most other espionage writers. The Failsafe Qury is his first novel and should be in contention for the best crime novel of the year... hopefully. It's about a disgraced former Intelligence agent who has been tasked with completing a covert operation involviing all branches of the SIS, Government and of course the odd Russian Red Sparrow who have committed gross errors of judgment or made enemies of powerful figures.
The Failsafe Query takes you into the life of the 'Old School' Spy working in the modern day, exploding like a firecracker in all directions. The narrative flips swiftly from day to day, gathering momentum as it builds towards a terrific climax................... The Failsafe Query is in itself up with current affairs which makes it so topical that it sucks you deeper and deeper into the story.
As Michael Jenkins is an Ex Military man with many years experiance within the Royal Engineers and Defence Intelligence (DIS), this is not the sort of novel where you’re likely to find positive portraits of Old Etonians. if you want to read one spy novel this year then read The Failsafe Query.
