Product description

A double bill of the classic 70's thrillers featuring an Oscar-winning Gene Hackman as 'Popeye' Doyle.In the first film Doyle and Buddy Russo (Roy Scheider) are tough New York cops attempting to crack a drug smuggling ring.They have a small candy store under surveillance, but Doyle is not happy when he receives the order to work with a pair of French federal agents on the case, one of whom he has a long-standing feud with.Hackman and director William Friedkin both earned Oscars for the film, which also took the award for Best Picture.Whilst in the sequel Doyle (Hackman) travels to Marseilles to track down Charnier (Fernando Rey), the leader of a drug smuggling ring whom he failed to capture in the first film.Kidnapped by dealers and pumped with heroin, Doyle has to kick his new-found habit before he can set about his revenge.

Though quite dated (1970s), the "French Connection" remains one of the all-time greatest cop movies to come out of Hollywood. Riveting and suspenseful right up to the end, you can't go wrong wiith Gene Hackman as one of the two main characters. After watching it again recently, I decided to buy the combo pact, offered through Amazon.com, that included "French Connection II" though not up the par of the first movie, but still worth watching.

Dislike is a poor choice of words. . A movie is composed of many segments. Such as casting; , the actors ability to get into the part, editing, which can make or break a movie, good script and how well its adapted from a novel , if appropriate,,video , well I could go on and on. How well did the director tie all these parts into a good or Great movie. I Really liked the first movie, especially the car chase scene. The second movie was a little loose in script. but was OK. Gene Hackmen held it together, and clearly did some research into a disturbing portrait of a man undergoing the agonizing and lengthy withdrawal from heroin. So , first movie Great, sequel,though entertaining , just OK.

The first French Connection was great. The second not so much. Gene Hackman plays Popeye Doyle who tries to solve one of the biggest drug rings in U.S. history. The drug kingpins are Corsican nationals importing heroin from Marseilles. Popeye Doyle and his partner Roy Scheider try their best to trace the source of the drugs and they end up knowing that it's an international conspiracy while on the trail of the drug shipments.

These are two good films both are fun to watch with Gene Hackman doing a great acting job on both films. The first film has a little more action and set in New York the second one shows Gene dealing with criminals in Europe and the problems he has to cope with in that situation , it is a different take but I still like the second film too.

This movie is about tough street cops in New York city and how they stumble into a major drug smuggling case. That era and the tactics are largely gone from US culture in 2018. It is suspenseful and in the end there are no winners....a very non-typical ending (no more information so as to not ruin the movie).
