I was wrong. Mushroom coffee will be what all the hipsters are drinking in no time. Although it's instant coffee, it tastes good and has a smoother taste than store-bought instant coffee. Not as good as ground coffee, but not revolting. As it advertises, you also don't feel as jittery when you have it - just more alert and focused on whatever you're up to. I was curious whether this was just the 50% less caffeine, so I doubled up (2 sachets in one cup). Tasted stronger, but still didn't have any jitters.
My only complaint is the cost. It's £1 per sachet which is absolute madness. Elsewhere online, it's actually more than this (£15 in most places I saw). I've bought it as a treat which I'll have occasionally, but I wouldn't buy it over £10 - that's the perfect price point in my opinion.
I had high hopes but unfortunately it just didn't seem to do much in terms of energy or mind clarity or concentration.
Maybe it works for some people but it just didn't for me.
The taste reminds me of Weetabix. Another annoying thing about the sachets is that no matter what way you open this and bung it into your mug , you always seem to end up getting a stained finger which isn't pleasant because it's a little stickier than normal instant coffee granules.
Whilst £10 is quite a bit of money for essentially 4 normal sized cups of coffee, apparently these are meant to have great health benefits and my partner was very complimentary of it.
The taste is not earthy as you would expect but full-bodied and a bit like an upper-class instant. He also said he felt just as awake as he did with the caffeine alternative. Even if it was all in his head, the effect was comparable so I would recommend.
The only plus this product has going for it, is the taste. It tastes good, but not worth the price!
Don't buy the hype about the Lion's Mane "lighting you up" though. It has had some of the described effects for me. If you don't know what they are, why would you buy it?
