Product Description

"With Exposed in Darkness, Heather Sunseri has crafted a sophisticated and absorbing thriller enhanced by a high-stakes horse-racing backdrop and a hard-won romance you'll relish." - Kathy Altman, USA Today

Just days before the running of the biggest thoroughbred horse race in the world, an act of bioterrorism kills Kentucky’s lieutenant governor, and former FBI Special Agent Brooke Fairfax receives a video of the murder from her long-time anonymous source. When Brooke discovers domestic terrorists are actually after the governor—her late husband’s brother—and that the radicals are eyeing more targets, she heads to Kentucky to stop the threat.

Shortly after the political assassination, the FBI zeroes in on one person: international mogul Declan O’Roark. Though Brooke has been out of the game since her husband was murdered, her former boss thinks she is the perfect candidate to connect Declan to the crime.

Despite the FBI clearly establishing means and opportunity, Declan remains unfazed; his motives have nothing to do with murder, but with getting closer to Brooke Fairfax. And Brooke finds the case becoming even more unclear as she falls for the FBI’s number one suspect.

Exposed in Darkness is the first in a brand new series. Brooke's and Declan's adventures with crime and love continue with additional books in the series:

Cut in Darkness - April 4, 2017
Covered in Darkness - August 1, 2017
Shot in Darkness - August 29, 2017

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely becoming one of my most favourite series! 9 April 2017

Oh my... This is definitely becoming one of my most favourite series! I would give this book a 10-star rating if Amazon had it.

OK, I admit that this book had sat in my Kindle for a while. I have no idea what put me off at first, maybe there was quite a few ARC I need to review first at the time. Anyway, after I started this book, I just couldn't put it down. I absolutely LOVE it! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! I love the characters, I love the mystery, I love the suspense, I love the romance built between the two main characters, well... I simply love everything about this book.

Brooke Fairfax was a complicated character. She's vulnerable, yet so strong. She was grieving, yet she could still care for other when situation called for it. She grew up in this book. Declan O'Roark, a wealthy and mysterious businessman, just the perfect man for Brooke. He could be very patient, a bit... er, well, quite arrogant, yet so thoughtful and protective about people he cared. I love that I got to see Declan's thought here and there. They simply compliment Brooke's thought. I also love that although the attraction between them happened immediately, the way to HEA was not rushed. And due to Brooke's state of mind, it was really more believable when the end of this book was an HFN (happily for now).

The mystery was full of twist and turn, I just couldn't guess it until Brooke knew it. As I'm a huge fan of mystery books, I always love books that I couldn't guess who the culprit was. The suspense also in the right amount. Not high strung all the time, but palpable throughout the book with a bit of relieve here and there.

So looking forward to the next books in the series. Write faster, please :)

This book ROCKED!

I love finding a new to me author. This book was recommended by a friend and I saved for vacation. WOW what a read!

The characters leapt off the page with depth, great back story and heart pounding intrigue. I can't wait to start book 2. And I have pre-ordered book 3.

This author has a clear, fantastic voice in this genre. She writes characters that you love and some you don't. She sucks you into the story and the world she has created.

She is an auto buy for me now! Check her out, you will be knocked out!

What a great story of intrigue. When Brooke get thrown back into the Agency when she attempts to protect her brother in-law (the Governor of Kentucky), she finds herself riding both sides of the sword. She is drawn to Declan, but doesn't know if she cash trust him or her heart.

Be prepared top enter the Kentucky world of Bourbon and horses. From the sweeping expanse of governor balls to the Thoroughbred stables to dazzling horse sporting events, you too will be right along Agent Fairfax and her dreams, trying to solve the case before more people die.
4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable FBI thriller by a good YA author 2 May 2017

Ex-FBI agent whose husband died under suspicious circumstances is pulled back in to the FBI life by a former informant who has a connection to her husband's death. She finds herself in Kentucky where her brother-in-law is Governor and she has information about a possible terrorist attack. She meets a very wealthy philanthropist and the excitement begins. I enjoyed the action, dialogue, and story-line. Not any graphic sex but there is definitely a dance that ends in bed. Not your typical police/FBI/Terrorist book. Not the best thriller I've read but definitely enjoyable.

I enjoyed the book so much that after receiving a copy from the author, I HAD to buy one. Definitely worth the price for this book. I don't write many reviews, because most of the time I don't feel strongly enough about a book (or an author) to do that. However, I make an exception for Heather Sunseri. I have read and enjoyed all of her books. Her writing style is fun, easy to follow/understand and she provides vivid descriptions of setting and characters. This book is my favorite so far.
I'll admit I wasn't sure what to expect with this one. It is a different genre than what I've seen from her previously. But I expected that the writing would be good- and that was the case. I cared about the main characters in the story and wanted things to turn out well for them. In the beginning of the story there are enough details given about the main character that you sympathize with her, even though you don't know everything about her mysterious past life as an FBI agent. You aren't sure about why she left the FBI in the first place, what happens between her and her former coworkers and there is still more to learn about that.
The plot of the story is interesting and there are a number of different scenes where it is apparent that the author did her research in order to provide believable scenes. The story line moves along with a few twists and turns and always keeps you guessing as to what will happen next. The main character's possible romance is always lurking, but it is never certain what is going on in her head (since we don't fully understand her past). You hope that the possible love interest is one of the good guys and it turns out.... Well, you'll have to read the book for that. You won't be sorry!
