Some of the purist science-fiction is the short story. How quickly can you paint a character fully realized enough to care about in the scenario? And what is the change brought about by extraordinary circumstances that causes your characters to confront and cope with or adapt to the consequences of that change?

The Masters of classic science-fiction and fantasy cut their teeth in the arena of short stories published in magazines like Astounding or Weird Tales.

The ability to world and character-build within a tightly constrained word count made these people Masters of their art by not allowing them to hide behind eloquent or even convoluted prose.

Watching someone like Bridget work in this form is not only entertainment, it is a revelation of how much can be done with just a little space and time.

Especially in today's world, we don't always have time for a 6 volume, 800 page per volume sprawling series. You just want something you can read before bed and enjoy in one sitting.

This book is that and more. :)
