4.0 out of 5 stars ... is the forth book in this series and its better if you read them in order to fully understand ... 18 February 2016

Format: Kindle Edition
This is the forth book in this series and its better if you read them in order to fully understand everything happening. Evelyn has a newborn son and is recently widowed. She has moved back home with her parents she doesn’t intend to stay there forever. However everyone else thinks she should. Her husband was not the nicest man ever and she isn’t entirely sorry he is gone. She is now free to be herself and not cower to his ways and wants. Nathaniel has recently come to Charlestown after being fighting against the British. He is instantly taken with Evelyn. He lost his wife during a raid and longs for the company with a woman he can call his own again. Evelyn doesn’t wish to marry so soon after losing her husband and Nathaniel’s future is unsure. Despite not wanting to feel anything for Nathaniel Evelyn does. Will she let him court her? Nathaniel longs to travel to the unknown lands in America how will his feeling for Evelyn affect this? I really enjoyed this book just as much as the others in this series. Evelyn and Nathaniel both envision their lives going on way and don’t really want to change their plans just because of their feelings for each other. Nathaniel wants to go and explore and Evelyn wants to stay close to where her family is and find a way to support herself and her son. Both want the other to change their plans and do what they want. Will they find a way to compromise or will they lose each other? It was fun getting to read about the other couples again as well. I saw the opportunity for another book in this series between Evelyn’s endured servant and Evelyn’s cousin Bill hopefully this will come about. I think this would be a very interesting book to read. Betty writes a great story with fantastic characters. The books pull you in the characters have such depth. I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys historical romances.
I was given this book in return for an honest review.
5.0 out of 5 stars "I know where home is." 27 January 2016

Betty Bolte’s fans are in for a real treat with another great book in the series of A More Perfect Union. This historical romance series is set in Charlestown, South Carolina during the 1700’s when America is fighting for independence and struggling to build a new country. This fourth and latest book in the series revisits the lives of the rich, strong female characters of Emily, Amy, Samantha, but features Evelyn.

In the third book of the series, we met Evelyn who was left devastated after losing her husband and the burning of her home. She is faced with starting over with only her infant son and her strong will. Evelyn’s life had been difficult due to a cruel and unloving husband and the effects of war. She promises herself no one would ever hurt her again and that she will work to ensure the future of her son. Enter Nathaniel who served in the state militia only to return to find his home attacked by British loyalists, his house burned and his wife killed. Nathaniel desires to move on and find new adventures and frontiers and Evelyn is determined to stay put and take control of her own life.

Nathanial struggles with his decision to leave Charlestown after falling in love with Evelyn. “Perhaps he had found his future without knowing it had slapped him on the forehead. Wriggling into his heart with the ease of a worm in mud.” Evelyn is busy rebuilding her home around the still standing statue of Pegasus. The statue provides meaning to Evelyn and the symbolism of Pegasus is used throughout the book.

This is a moving story and has a great ending. My favorite line is, “I know where home is.” Betty Bolte’s books are well written and well researched and a pleasure to read.

Check out the whole series beginning with Emily’s Vow. However, Evelyn’s Promise can be read as a stand-alone book. You will fall in love with Evelyn and Nathanial.

I received this book in exchange for my honest opinion and fair review.
5.0 out of 5 stars A struggle to find new normal and honor one's dreams 12 July 2016
By DogsMom - Published on
Of all the books in this five star series (so far, as I am hopeful there will be more) this one is the most tense!
The war is over and the Brits have departed, leaving Charlestown to the residents. As is the case after any major conflict, there are people out of work and needing shelter. There were casualties as a result of battle, and Evelyn is a widow with a newborn son.

There is a struggle to find a new normal and in this particular town, the women intend to have their say. Many people are opposed to the continued use of slaves, but others can't imagine a life without them.

If you have read any of the previous books in this series you have met these well developed characters. Nat Williams was not a major character in the past but now we learn much more about him.
To be honest, he has flaws and makes some bad decisions. He has some very traditional views which don't quite mesh with Evelyn's vision of an ideal future. Does life require us to give up our own dreams to support those of another?

I only wish we had heard more about the opening and success of Emily's dress shop!
This is an amazing series that I suggest for high school age and above and for every book club to read!

I did receive this book in exchange for an honest review. I love this series!!!

Evelyn's Promise is my first book from author Betty Bolte. I loved it. Betty did such a wonderful job telling us the story of Evelyn and Nathaniel meeting and falling in love. Evelyn and Nathaniel were a perfect match for each other. Evelyn is reluctant to fall in love and marry another man after her first husband dies. She has a small son she needs to think of and rebuilding the home that was burned down. When Nathaniel enters her life, she is not prepared for such a handsome and caring man to be interested in her. Their journey to be together as a family was really enjoyable to read. I will be reading the first stories in this series as well. Well done Betty Bolte.
4.0 out of 5 stars The Only Certainty is Change! 12 July 2016

Evelyn is now free of Walter. Once she finds her self-confidence, she's determined to do right by her son. Then she meets Nathaniel.
Nathaniel has also suffered due to the war. He's practically given away his land due to his grief. Now he must start over...
Vows, promises...the only concrete certainty is change! This point is made dynamically throughout the series but especially in this story. Nat's views on slavery were refreshing as were Evelyn's later. Enjoyed!
