Ethan is a story that twists at your heart. Beth ran when she found that the groom her father had chosen for her was not what he should have been, but she didn't sign up for a life that was as different to her own as chalk is to cheese. Ethan is manipulated into marriage with Beth by his mother, causing a rift in relationships not only with his mother but with his brothers as well. He is even more resentful when he realises that having been pushed into marriage, no one expects Beth to stick around and for that reason he is not accorded the same privileges his brothers enjoy. At first Beth is so different to the rest of the Fraser family that she feels like a pariah, unwanted and scorned. Her initial attempts at trying to learn to be part of the household are met with disastrous results, causing her to run once more.
This story pulls at the emotions and even when despairing of Beth as she compares her life in the city with that on the ranch, you cannot but help rooting for her and applauding her as she claims one small victory after the next. Although the youngest brother, Ethan shows remarkable maturity and gentleness towards Beth, and he is every bit the gentleman willing to woo Beth and teach her the ways of his world.
