I found that even though this book is the second in this series it feels like a book that could be read as a stand alone book but still had a good constancy with the previous novel. The characters are believable and have flaws that make them accessible to the reader. I found that this book had good sections of humour and more serious parts between the characters. Dougal and Caitlyn meet again as adults in the unusual location of the front lines of a war. Although both characters have feelings of inadequacy they learn to see themselves through each others eyes. Their relationship hardships are situated around the war between the wolves and dragons as Caitlyn has a way to stop the dragons. After the two mate and are seperated they find their way back to each other. The book also shows how the wolves back home are starting to bring back some normallity to their lives. The book has a happy ending to leave the reader with a smile at the end of this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Finding love on the battlefield 16 July 2015

Finding your mate on the front lines of a war that you are losing sounds impossible but for Dougal Owens and Caitlyn Knox that is exactly what happens. Dougal is a wolf shifter fighting on the front lines of the Dragon Wars. He has not been home in Sixteen years and hasn't seen his family or neighbors The Knox family in that long. Caitlyn Knox is a scientist that has figured out how to beat the dragons and has come to the front lines to experiment with Dragon eggs.

Dougal Owens is the oldest son and at one time thought to lead his pack as alpha. I really liked Dougal when he finally gets his head out of his butt and realises that Caitlyn is his mate he doesn't waste anytime making her his. Caitlyn is a survivor and although scared out of her mind she walks straight onto the front lines and not only completes her mission but gets the man er wolf too. Love, loyalty, betrayal and hot wolf sex make up a great story.

This is an awesome story! I really liked the characters and how the war at the front lines was handled. We are given more detail about the war between the Wolves & the Dragons. The characters are strong and devoted to each other in a way you don't often see. All in all a great story and I'm looking forward to more.

Would love to see these books expanded on sometime in the future.

Very enjoyable book, good plot line, you really get to know the characters and feel for them? I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a great series. I will be looking forward to reading the next book about the twins; who are supposed to be dead.

4.0 out of 5 stars Scientist with a wild theory reconnects with her wild childhood crush! 12 April 2017
By Nikki Brooks - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
The Owens Boys are back with a bang! Dougal has been on the front line of the war with Dragons. He can barely remember the last time he was home. We have moved on about 12 months from book 1 and we are learning more about the war and dragons themselves.

Scientist Caitlyn Knox has found herself on the front lines, testing her theory on how to destroy the Dragon Eggs. Wolves hate the thought of killing the young of any species, but dragons are hatched full grown and they really cannot keep pace with the never ending reinforcements. When she arrives at the camp nearest the Dragon nesting ground Caitlyn is shocked to find Dougal, her mate.
But he doesn't seem to recognise her as such and she tried to bury her feelings deep. But Dougal can't shake the feeling that this little scientist is very important to him and she fills him in on all the things that have happened at home.

But there is treachery afoot and Dougal is betrayed by one of his closest friends. He manages to get Caitlyn to safety but is not so lucky himself.

There are more than a few surprises in this book, not least of which the treachery and double dealing of certain elements within the forces and some "brothers" who have been playing at elite soldiers! The love amongst the battlefields is strong in this book and the Owens boys sure do have super strong swimmers! I loved the little side character of Breezy - I hated that he couldn't continue into the other stories in the series, he would have been an awesome pet! This book could be read as a stand alone but I would suggest reading in order.
