Product Description

This e-book can be read on any Smart Phone, PC or Mac using a free application from Amazon.com. A printed version is also available.
This is Book 1, of five (1, 2, 3, 4 and 5) books, that tours the Grand Circle Adventure parks in southern Utah and northern Arizona. The areas covered in this book are shown in the front cover and the Table of Contents when you use the Look Inside option available by opening the Amazon book Internet site.

All books, including print versions, are available at: www.southutahparks.com

This book is a combination of driving, hiking, mountain-biking and other tours. Where applicable, valuable specific history of that area is included from ancient Indian to modern pioneer evolution. There are suggestions of what to see and do for each tour.
Your exact location is known by using a meticulous identification of MPs (mile posts along the road indicating mileage) located at each mile (1.6 km) on every improved road. Where those MPs are not available, we use actual miles from a designated reference point. Where applicable, Global Positioning data (GPS) is supplied to complement walking tours in remote areas. Using this collection of information, you will always know your exact location.

Book navigation starts with the Table of Contents. Under each major Trip there are many individual Tours. Clicking on a Table of Contents Trip or Tour, quickly leaps you to that selection. In that Tour, under 1.0 Information, there are Hyperlinks to other sections within that Tour: 2-Visitor Center; 3-Services; 4-Lodging; 5-Camping, 6-Hiking; 7-Other Tours (Biking, Horse, Rafting, etc.) and 8-Driving Tours.

> Utah Scenic Byway 12 –The 28-mile (45 km) segment from Escalante to Boulder, Utah is one of the most scenic highways in the U.S. Then, it passes over Boulder Mountain 11,316 feet (3,559 m) having views across hundreds of miles. From Boulder east, the Burr Trail road is another incredible scenic adventure journey of red walled canyons. In that area, there is a forest of very rare black petrified wood.

> Arches National Park – This park hosts the largest quantity of natural arches in the world. Delicate Arch is the most photographed arch shown on calendars and tourist brochures. This is primarily a driving tour. There two easy-moderate hiking trails to visit these arches.

> Canyonlands – Maze District - There are three districts to Canyonlands. We consider this district the most scenic of the three. Unfortunately (fortunately), 4-wheel drive vehicles or Mountain Bikes are required to access into this park. Part of this tour visits the ancient Grand Gallery and Harvest Scene pictograph panels that are the finest Barrier Canyon Style pictographs in the U.S. They are approximately 20 feet (6 m) long and 15 feet (4.5 m) high.

> Canyonlands – Island In The Sky is Arches National Park neighbor. This is primarily a driving tour to stunningly panoramic views of Canyonlands including the Colorado River. A moderate and short hike to Upheaval Dome is highly recommend to see one of the most puzzling geological aberrations in this area. Sunrise at Mesa Arch is a major attraction whose image is often seen on calendars and tourist brochures.

> Goblin Valley – This is a unique geological area where erosion has carved endless cartoon images of faces and animal figures where children’s imagination rules.

> Capitol Reef National Park is known for its high white dome shaped canyons resembling the U.S. Capitol building. Originally, this was a Mormon settlement hosting many fruit orchards. When it became a park, one of the requirements was that these orchards be maintained, which they are. When in season, free fruit is available from these trees.

> Moab –This tourist town is the access Arches National Park and Canyonlands Island In The Sky. It is also the mecca for Mountain Biking and 4-wheel drive rock crawling. All touring services are provided including a magnificent Visitor Ctr.
