I immensely enjoyed the story of Kit and Will; two dangerous, damaged men who find each other despite all the odds being stacked against them. The character development was excellent, I loved the differences between the two POVs, the story was twisty and enthralling and the tension between the two was H-O-T hot!

Enemies like you: the full standalone novel that follows Enemies with benefits. Kit, orphaned, brilliant, sexy, dangerous and deadly is deep, deep undercover, the world knows him as Kate, the bimbo girlfriend of Russian billionaire Polzin.
Will, dedicated, loyal, deadly, brash, is retired military, utilised by the CIA, is set on a course of vengeance to kill Polzin for the deaths of his entire team in Afghanistan.
What happens with a unstoppable force meets an immovable object? Collision course explodes where smoking hot bodies creat friction that's incendiary and someone's gotta give. Great spy thriller with enough twists and turns to keep the pages flying, and a fabulous awakening of previously unknown desire for submission between two Alpha sexy badass men. Great plot that was fast paced, very well thought out, a real joy to read, and the two hero's were sublime in their cat and mouse dance across the globe.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a grippingly suspenseful little spy thriller, and oh my word, we are talking hot! 18 May 2017
By Pam I Am - Published on

Omg, this was amaaazing! This is one of those books that should absolutely be a movie, just sayin’! What a grippingly suspenseful little spy thriller, and oh my word, we are talking hot! Like seriously HOT, with a generous serving of kinky. And if that’s not enough there’s genuine tenderness, humor, a great mystery that builds tantalizingly towards a highly satisfying conclusion, and a heartbreaking revelation for one character near the end of the book that briefly gave me such feelz I nearly broke down over it in public. Don’t worry, though, there’s definitely a happy ending :)

There are also two incredibly fantastic lead characters, both of them strong but also very vulnerable, both heroic, yet only too human. They each come with complicated emotions and a moving backstory. And they’re both extremely appealing, but in entirely different ways. For that last reason, this isn’t just an enemies-to-lovers romance, it’s also an opposites attract sort of thing, because really, each man could hardly be any less like the other . . . or so it seems. Because the more you read, the more common threads are revealed. And not to be too trite & all “in the end we’re all the same” about it, but it’s the combination of all this that makes them such a great couple, makes them, in fact, actually so perfect for each other that it felt to me quite “meant to be”. And that’s something I have a real soft spot for in romance, because it’s one of those supposedly “fantasy” elements that I actually find to be very true to life – or at least it has been in my experience.

I loved both characters, but I do have to admit to being really partial to Kit <3 <3 <3 I mean, for one thing, if there’s ever a contest Kit would win, hands down, if for no other reason than having the most killer line in the book. And possibly in the history of killer lines. So, of course I have to quote it here. I gotta warn you though, it’s kinda spoilery for something we learn around 10% into the book – though if you’re anything like me I suspect you’ll have guessed it much earlier on (not because it’s too-easy but just, y’know, it only makes sense, assuming you’ve read the book description) – but anyway here it is, for the non-spoiler averse among us, or those who have already read the book:

“They don’t like it that I’m twice the man they’ll every be and prettier than any woman they could ever get.
What can I say? I’ve always been an overachiever.”

I mean, just . . .*ded*! Am I right? Is that, or is that not the best line ever?! Okay, technically 2 lines, 2 sentences anyway, but whatever. James Bond couldn’t even touch it. I pretty much gave it my own personal standing ovation in my living room :D

Aanyway obviously I really loved this ;) I’ll add that I’ve read Joanna Chambers before & always love her work, but this was my first time reading Annika Martin . . . or so I thought! Until I found out she apparently also writes romantic suspense as Carolyn Crane. I’ve only read one Crane book, the first of her The Associates series, and it was sexy & good & well written, but somehow I wasn’t in love with it. And was disappointed by that as I’d heard such great things about it from people whose tastes tend to align with mine & whose literary opinions I really respect. So I’d chalked it up to a case of maybe-this-author/series/genre(?)-just-isn’t-for-me. But I’m so blown away by this book it’s convinced me to give that series & author “brand” another try. Particularly as I’ve been hearing that the 2nd book in that series is particularly awesome.

Either way, I’ll definitely be up for the next thing by this author duo, and will be checking out more Annika Martin books as well!

Highly recommended for anybody who likes enemies-to-lovers and/or sexy, kinky espionage-flavored romantic suspense.

4.0 out of 5 stars Loved this hot MM ~ James Bond meets Rambo ~ Mercenaries and Spies!! 16 May 2017

Enemies Like You (Enemies with Benefits #1) by Annika Martin and Joanna Chambers
4 stars!!!

***Note*** If you have read the free prologue, Enemies With Benefits, then this book will start around 24% for you. If you have not read the free prologue…don’t fret…it is included in this book.

“Sometimes you have to disengage your personal conscience in order to achieve the greater good.”

For those that have read my review for Enemies with Benefits you will know how much I itched to read Enemies Like You. Enemies with Benefits was the perfect appetizer and I couldn’t wait to dive into the main course. I have to be honest, I inhaled this book. I could not read it quick enough and it ticked so many boxes. It wasn’t quite what I expected and yet was more than I did. I loved the constant surprises that these two authors hit the reader with and that constant feeling of anticipation never dissipated throughout this book. This book was about espionage and spies, the UK and the US combining their talents to bring a master manipulator to their knees. This was James Bond meets Rambo and it was damn addicting.

So, Annika Martin and Joanna Chambers give us some of my favourite tropes…enemies to lovers, spies and seriously, seriously hot MM action. I must admit I did read this book as fiction and literary licence was liberally given because I am sure true spies and mercenaries would never have their attention diverted to that extreme by a hot bod, but this is a book, a romantic suspense and the rules went out the window as soon as Will got down on his damn knees (I’m still fanning myself BTW.) Seriously though, these two are combustible, all that sexual tension along with some seriously intense chemistry had me from the word “knees.”

“I need to get away from his orbit, but instead I draw closer – loathing him – loathing everything. “You disgust me.”
“But you still want me to f*** you, don’t you?”

Will and Kit should be sworn enemies, yet neither can deny the attraction and both have the uncanny ability to truly understand the other. The connection that these two have is extremely dangerous, for both of them, and yet that danger seems to add to the allure. These two are fighting against each other…or are they? One wants the Russian dead, the other desperate to keep him alive until his breath is no longer required. Will these two continue to compete against the other, or could two heads be better than one?

“I won’t just neutralise him…I’ll make him suffer…He’ll never see me coming.”

This is a book that continued to surprise me, at every turn these two authors continued to thwart my thought process as just as I thought I had it all fathomed out, they pulled the rug from under me. But I love a book that keeps you on your toes and this one did that in spades. I don’t want to go into too much detail because this book relies on the plot and you definitely need to read it yourself to appreciate the ride that these two authors take you on.

I would have loved an epilogue for this one, unless these two authors are going to write another of course and while I felt the ending was a little rushed it in no way hindered my enjoyment of the book as a whole. As I said above, I inhaled this book and I am seriously hoping that this is not the last I hear from this dynamic duo, that is Will and Kit as well as Martin and Chambers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great 18 May 2017

When I first read the free chapters on amazon, I thought that they have accidentally put it under the wrong genre but then I got hit with the twist and couldn't stop laughing. That was when i decided to purchase this book and I can say it did not disappoint me. This was a great read, I couldn't put it down. I will recommend this book and I'll check others from the same author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ok, more like 4.5... 29 May 2017

This is a high rating from me. I have to say I really enjoyed this book with only a few complaints.

I'm not going to recap the storyline, but in a nutshell you have 2 agents form different countries working toward a semi common goal. One is so deep undercover that the other doesn't realize he's actually a good guy to. Regardless they have different missions which still put them as enemies regardless of their motives.

What I liked:

ENEMIES TO LOVERS: One of my favorite tropes. I think this can be difficult to do properly, and well, this is how it's done. Especially the sexy times. Which speaking of...

HOT HOT HOT! The few love scenes in the book were super steamy. Like, whew. I read a lot of m/m books and some scenes are overplayed, underwhelming, or just downright repetitive. You won't find that here.

THE MEET CUTE: Can you call it that if it's a movie and not a book? Either way, best meeting of characters. Like ever.

CHARACTER BUILDING: I felt like I really knew these guys. What made them tick and what made them click. I don't know that I could call this a slow build romance, but it definitely wasn't insta love either. And while they may not have had typical dates or known each other's favorite colors, they knew their character. Their life situations brought them together more than anything.

OVERALL STORYLINE: Honestly I read for relaxation and to get away from everyday life. I usually prefer romance and not spy/mystery etc. Reason being is I have enough to worry about in life and I don't want another problem to solve. While this was a major part of the book it was still very enjoyable for me. It was well thought out and not overwhelming.

What I didn't like:

PROMETHEUS: While I liked the representation at first it became too much. I felt like the authors wanted us to get their inspiration or creativity and ended up shoving it down our throats instead. Again, it was a good addition, I just think maybe they should have left off some inner dialogue and let the reader see it for what it was. As a reader I think your interpretation of those things makes the book that much more personal. PS Same with Phoenix

I WANTED SOME LOVE AFTER THE LOVE: While I've stated the love scenes were hot, most of them were based on lust, attraction, and circumstances. I would have liked to see a love scene after the reveal of feelings. (And maybe a certain character bottoming ;)

So that's it really. I don't review a lot of books (this is maybe my third) but I do read a lot of them (this is maybe my 800th m/m). But I felt compelled to write a review so I did:)

Overall I highly recommend this book and would read another collaboration of these authors in the future.

I really enjoyed this. Of course it has plot holes to drive a truck through - dedicated killers who pause in their killing overwhelmed by lust for a person they really don't know at all - but it was hot and fun in a tortured hero kind of way. I've read Joanna Chambers before and liked her and really enjoyed this collaboration. I think this was a hot silly spy story but when you are in it, you just go with the flow and the flow is lava hot! 1000% better than 50 shades of grey, has a BDSM flavor but more psychological than any thing else.
