Product Description

After Lady Rebecca Jamison, a mathematical genius, saves her family from financial ruin by secretly investing in railway stocks on the London stock exchange, a greedy syndicate, desperate for Becca's calculations and predictions, murders her friend and threatens the Jamison family, forcing Becca to beg assistance from her childhood friend, Cayle St. Martin.
The newly titled Duke of Sherwyn has returned to London after five years on the continent extending his family's shipping interests. He's shunned his privileged London life and his father's unbending attitudes, and becomes committed to employing the spying tactics he learned on the continent to help Becca indict the syndicate - and using his skills as a lover to seduce her into his bed.
But how will Cayle be able to convince Becca, a determinedly self-sufficient spinster, that he can be more to her than just a protector?

The first in my scandal series with heroines whose scientific knowledge and intellect are an affront to increasingly prudish early Victorian society.

4.0 out of 5 stars Incredible dresses, spunky women and sizzling romance. 12 July 2013
By Z. Lobo - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
I enjoy reading about a feisty heroine, and placing her in historical romance makes her even more a delightful anomaly. Becca is intelligent, business savvy and in no need of any traditional man who treats her like property. The newly dubbed Duke of Sherwyn isn't any man. He's a past childhood crush, a spy and is determined to keep Becca close ... both because he can't resist her and because he has vowed to protect her. Becca's not the only smart, business-minded woman in her family. There are several of them and the men of her time are ready to put them in their place, even if it means their graves.

This dance of sultry attraction and suspense twined between scenes of ballroom dances, lavish gowns, swords and hidden guns. If you enjoy historical romance, a suspenseful tale or a saucy trip the past, Embracing Scandal is a book for you.

A book to be enjoyed by all who love historical romance. Suzi Love has done it again after the stimulating Viscount's Pleasure House.
Carefully researched with lots of historical details as well as an engrossing story involving well developed characters

2.0 out of 5 stars It left me confused, aggravated and wanting to throw the book against a the wall. 16 May 2015

This book was like a seesaw. The heroine and hero went back and forth about so many boring subjects. Supposedly they were both exceptionally smart and yet I wanted to slap them silly and hurry them to make their point. The whole storyline was a yawner (as most financial institutions are) but their sexual innuendos were just as defected. One day he wants her...then he doesn't. Same with the heroine. She wants to scientifically experiment and record sexual encounters. All in all it was a very confusing story and I skipped many pages to get to the END.

4.0 out of 5 stars fun and fast reading 11 March 2014

Part triller, part adventure and part romance but all delightful. I love the heroine's quirks and how the author poked fun at society prejudices at the time. The hero is a good compliment to the heroine. The only detraction was that I didn't quite understand what the hero's stepmother had on the hero. I look forward to reading the other books in the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Embracing Scandal 25 February 2013
By Mary - Buried Under Romance - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
In the dead of night, Lady Rebecca Jamison seeks the help of her childhood friend to help her unravel the threats of a murdered. Cayle St. Martin, the new Duke of Sherwyn, had barely settled in London before having his peace disrupted by his outrageously spirited and intelligent friend, who gives him an opportunity to exercise his talents, both mental and physical. In promising to find the person who murdered Rebecca's friend for their investing successes, Cayle sought to keep Rebecca out of trouble, and possibly, in his bed. As Cayle and Rebecca work together to find the murderer and save herself from becoming the next victim, the two of them plays a game of seduction that will prove to alter the course of their relationship.

Both Cayle and Rebecca are very determined and confident characters. Rebecca is the undisputed caretaker of her family, it's due to her intelligent investments that her family has not fallen to genteel poverty. Her intelligence and her integrity attracts Cayle, who is also a shrewd man wishing to keep Rebecca and her family save. Cayle's behavior to Rebecca comes off as overly ducal as times, but that usually brings a heated tete-a-tete that turns into sizzling passion. It is Rebecca whose character I have some trouble getting used to. For all of her mathematical genius and her intelligence as bespoken by others, she engages in a myriad of childlike behaviors such as tantrums and foot-stomping, instead of the calm and rational demeanor I would assume her to normally take. Her stubbornness also gets annoying, when she takes a long time to accept Cayle's offer and believes that he does not truly love her. That aside, the mystery aspect of this novel is interesting, and the action well-paced, so readers would not find themselves skimming over the pages to get to the end.

All in all, this was a satisfying read that lovers of historical romance with action should pick up (not to mention the price is fairly cheap).
