Evan is left heart broken after transferring to Georgia Southern University to be with the one he loves, only to find she has fallen in love with someone else. In the first couple of chapters he is angry and upset, it made me a little teary as he is such a sweet character, but as the book goes on Evan makes some unlikely friends and his broken heart begins to heal.
It was great to read about the friendship that formed between him and Sawyer (one of Laney and Dane's best friends) and what was really surprising was when he started to befriend Laney's enemy and previous Dane clinger, Whitley. When reading Emerge I really disliked Whitley, but Embrace has changed my mind, after reading how confused she was when it came to Dane and how sweet she is to Evan, there was no way it couldn't. Whitley helps Evan through a lot and he does the same for her and as this happens their friendship becomes something more. The second book goes into a little more detail about all the characters from the first book too and a crew is formed, which Evan, Whitley, Dane, Laney, etc. are all apart of, which I would never have believed could happen after reading Emerge (due to Laney hating Whitley plus Dane and Evan's jealousy of each other) but it does and all characters sound like an awesome bunch of people.

The transition from feelings of friendship to love for Evan and Whitley is superbly written and S.E Hall also did an excellent job when it came to Evan forgiving Laney and the friendship that formed between the four main characters.
Loved Emerge, Love this series and Evan is amongst my favourite book boyfriends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Team Evan!!! 29 September 2013
By Yvette ~ Nose Stuck in a Book - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
I've never been a huge fan of love triangles, mostly because the constant back-and-forth between the characters involved stresses me out, but also because someone inevitably gets hurt. Even though I thoroughly enjoyed the book, reading S.E. Hall's Emerge (Evolve Series #1) was particularly nerve-racking because protagonist Laney Walker was caught in the middle of two near-perfect guys, Dane Kendrick and Evan Allen. If there was ever a character that got the raw end of the real, it would be Evan, a.k.a. the odd man out, a.k.a. one of the sweetest and most romantic fictional heroes ever to be imagined. Luckily, Evan gets another chance at happiness in book two of the Evolve Series, Embrace, with an unexpected new love interest.

I was resolutely Team Evan while reading Emerge, so I was happy to spend more time getting to know him. While the love triangle may have been resolved, the aftereffects are still resonating with the trio. Embrace is about Evan reevaluating his relationship with Laney and figuring out how to move on with Laney being a constant presence in his life. I loved the multi-narrator format, which interwove Laney and Dane's narratives with Evan's story. S.E. Hall is as comfortable writing from a male perspective as she is writing a female point-of-view, voicing both the romantic hero and unabashed womanizer with the same level of genuineness and conviction.

As much as I love the romantic connections between the different couples, it's the friendships between the core group of characters fondly referred to as "the Crew" that's the heart of the series. There's a certain level of comfort and familiarity with all of the characters and, as a reader, I enjoyed getting drawn in to the endlessly entertaining and close-knit pack of friends. Each character is memorable in his/her way, with distinct personalities that energize the narrative. Without the fierce loyalty and camaraderie between the Crew, the story wouldn't be the same, because the characters are such a vital part of each other's lives.

Embrace is my favorite type of book - a good amount of romance, and only mild amount of angst. It seems like all the books I've read lately have been incredibly intense and gut-wrenching, so it was refreshing to read a story that was charming and emotionally satisfying, without being overwhelming. Aside from a bit of drama every now and then, Embrace is a light-hearted, fun, and shamelessly sweet romance. The absolute best part of the book, though, was reading Sawyer's epilogue. I had plenty of reasons to smile while reading Embrace, but I was absolutely ecstatic by the prospect of Sawyer getting his own book and being able to spend more time with these characters in the third book in the Evolve series.

Do not read if you have not read Emerge as this review contains spoilers for the first book.

(quote)Maybe your true self only thrives in the accompaniment of the one made to bring it out in you.

This book begins right after the dramatic conclusion of Emerge. Evan is angry, lost and heartbroken since Laney chose Dane. He gave up his scholarship and life to move to win Laney back and lost.

As Evan begins making friends, he and Laney have to try to get past the hurt to regain their friendship but it is not a quick or easy process. And along the way Even meets a girl who just seems to fit with him, even if she is an unlikely choice. I have to say I would have never guessed who he would develop a connection with. But their pasts have similarities and they surprisingly just kind of click.

"I don't want to be an underdog anymore, do you?...That settles it. We are now opposites of underdogs. We are--We're overcats!"

I loved Evan in the first book and continued to do so throughout this one. Evan is a good guy who has been devastated. But he really just wants to love and be loved. He tries to date and move on. But he finds he is really attracted to one girl, but they have become friends, and he does not want to go down that road again. But she is supportive, fun, sweet, and always there for him. I was surprised how much I really liked her. They really did have a connection, an understanding of each other, and complimenting personalities. But Evan is unsure of what would be worse...not making a move or making one and being rejected again.

"Well, you bring out the best in me."
"Right back atcha, pretty girl."

Will he take a chance on love again or let her slip through his fingers?

It is a story of moving on, second chances, and healing. It was heartbreaking, sweet, romantic, and inspiring. But this is not just Evan's story. We also get more with Laney and Dane's story as well. They still have some challenges to face together. I really do like them as a couple. Sawyer, in all his glory, is also a big part of this book. And Tate, Zach, Bennett, Avery, Kirby, and Parker are all involved as well. I really love this crew of characters. The stories are about the couples, but also about their friendships. They are humorous, protective, and provide unwavering support. I cannot wait for Sawyer's story. He totally cracks me up, and he has a big heart even though he hides it under a foul-mouthed playboy exterior.

"One of these days some girl's gonna snag ya and knock ya on your a**. This way, you'll be ready."
"You start drinking without me? No woman will ever tame me, or send me on f***ing errands or tampon runs and bulls***. That chick doesn't exist. It's different doing it for Gidge, she's my buddy."

We get a little glimpse of his ongoing story at the end of this book and I am already intrigued.

5.0 out of 5 stars Didn't think I could fall in love with Evan even more... 1 October 2013
By Trish Santos - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I love Evan Mitchell Allen SO FREAKING MUCH. My heart was breaking for him at the shocking ending of Emerge. I was wailing. I didn’t think I knew who I loved more, Dane or Evan, while actually reading the emotional rollercoaster that is Emerge. But, with that ending I knew I was whole-heartedly Team Evan. How could I not be? In Emerge, he was the sweet-talking, creative nicknaming, caring, sexy, gentleman who was always there for Laney no matter what. In Embrace, we get to see lots more of this man who gave up everything to try to win his girl back only to be too late *sobs*.

Embrace alternates between Evan, Laney, and Dane’s POVs. Yes, I said Dane. For all of you who are worried that because this is Evan’s book we don’t get to see any Dane and Laney, you are DEAD WRONG. Initially, I didn’t agree with the POV choices. I wanted it to be Evan, Laney, and Ev’s new girl. However, I know there are way too many Dane fans out there, and on the third read I accepted it and moved it to my favorites shelf. Evan gave up everything to be with Laney only to have it thrown back in his face *sniffle*, so Embrace is his journey of accepting that everything happens for a reason. He had been “in love” with his best friend for years, and now that’s gone, he has to find something (or someone). to make him smile every day. And the real kicker? He happens to become friends with Laney’s friends, which puts them in close proximity of each other. It’s hard to move on when the reason you’ve been kicked down is always near you.

Anyway, Ev is strong though. He goes through the motions. He lets Sawyer drag him around and try to cheer him up. (Sawyer is hysterical by the way, and he gets his book next. Which, I’m really looking forward to.) But, it’s not until he meets a certain someone that he finds the true reason he ended up at Southern. Now, I’m not going to tell you who it is actually. If I had known, I might have refused to read the book. Actually, I initially threw a fit to S.E. Hall once I figured out who she was pairing up with Evan. BUT, S.E. Hall proved her awesome, amazing, fanfreakingtastic writing skills to me because I was dying for them to get together after the first night they hang out. It’s. That. Good. The two of them were making me giggle. They were way too freaking cute. The buildup to them actually getting together was deliciously angsty. Not to mention funny. Since he’s a guy Ev went on a series of AWFUL but highly entertaining blind dates while in denial of his feelings for her. She grew on me fast. My initial opinion of her couldn’t have been more wrong. She was so sweet and bubbly, She didn’t have the perfect life, yet she was always smiling, humming, and most importantly, making Ev happy. She was everything my Evan deserved. His journey to healing wouldn’t have been complete without her.

Because it’s hard to write a review without spoiling who he ends up with or the majority of the plot, I’ll just gush about some of my favorite parts/aspects of Embrace, It’s Evan’s book. Insta-love. S.E. Hall was able to make me fall in love with someone I initially hated. And I ended up dying for them to get together. The Crew is such a fun group of people that I wish I could be a part of. There’s a nice Laney and Dane story in the background. Which leads to my name is in the book. This book evokes a wide-range of emotion. Everything from highly amusing to heart-warming. There were some unexpected events that took place that kept me on my toes. It’s a relatable, realistic story. Evan is so sweet.Evan is hot.Evan is good with words. Evan calls her “Hummingbird”. I just love Evan, obviously.

I was so happy with the way the story ended. I had no idea what to expect when I agreed to beta read for Embrace, but I can’t believe everything turned out so perfect and amazing for Ev. There was not a boring moment. This is a captivating, light-read about growing up and finding love. You need to be touched by the magic of this book! Besides, don’t you want to know who the girl is? I absolutely cannot wait for Sawyer’s book. It’s obvious that he has a troubled past and he is such a comical character that I want to know what goes on inside his head. The epilogue is in his POV and leaves a lot to be desired. Until then…

“Will it always be this good, Evan? I love you so much, everything feels perfect; surely it can’t stay like this forever.”
“Nope, it’ll get better.”

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed to say the least 9 November 2013
By Michele - Published on Amazon.com

Okay, this is my first time writing a review and it has taken me more than a month to do so. I was THAT frustrated with this book. I loved the first book but this one made my blood boil. How do you completely change the characters personalities? Dismissing everything we(as readers) have connected with. First, I hate Whitley. She goes from a snobby, vindictive bi$$ch in the first book to a misunderstood, innocent and virginal girl in this one. At the same time, Laney is made out to be the vindictive, insensitive and pushy bi$$h. Really? Evan...how do you not fight for a love you've had your entire life and instead fall even more in love with a girl you just meet? I love the crew but for them to just accept both Whitley and Evan with open arms makes no sense to me!!
Scenes that drove me crazy:
Tattoo
Kitchen and bedroom scene with Whitley and Laney
The whole trip with saw, whit and Evan
The romantic gesture from Evan
Parker

The list could go on forever. The character development didn't make sense to me. Laney changed from being a caring individual to a girl so in love that she disregards everything and everyone important to her. Ie: Parker, her dad
Evan turns into a jerk and weakling.

If you were team Dane this book might be for you. I wasn't team anything, I just couldn't get past the characters ever changing personalities.

5.0 out of 5 stars I WANNA BE HIS PRETTY GIRL!!! LOVED IT!!!! 31 October 2013
By Schmexy Jen - Published on Amazon.com

EVAN IS BACK!!! I think I died and went to heaven. He is as hot and swoonworthy as ever and I JUST WANT TO TAKE HIM HOME WITH ME!!!!

We are right back where Emerge left off. Evan has given up everything for Laney...schools, his scholarship, his friends, argued with his parents. But OMG he is shattered. He looses Laney to Dane and now must pick up the pieces of his life and find his own happily every after.

He meets Whitley...the girl we love to hate. Only Whitley is not who we thought she was. Can he find love with her? Can she mend his broken heart and make it whole again? His fear of ruining their friendship gets in the way and he doesn't want to repeat history with Whitley.

"I don't want to hurt you, Whit. You're such a great person, and I'm not sure what this is...but I don't want to lose you."

He goes on date after date and THEY HAD ME ROLLING AND CRYING...best date convos in the history of date convos. "Strut Your Single." You will cringe, pee your pants, and wish you were a fly on the wall watching it with your very own eyes. I think Date #2 was my all time favorite...Avery...OMG I can't even type through my laughter. LOVED ALL THESE SCENES!!!

FINALLY...the date I've been waiting for...Evan and Whitley!!! Will they make it work? Will they ruin their friendship? Will fate be on their side?

God I was pushing and praying for them the whole time.

"You're beautiful, Whitley Thompson, inside and out. And I need my a$$ kicked for taking so long to tell you."

CAN I PLEASE BE WHITLEY THOMPSON, just for one day? PLEASE!!!!

"Dance with me, prettty girl."

I will never, ever be able to hear the words "Pretty Girl" ever again without thinking of my Evan! I love him with my whole heart and soul. HE IS PERFECT!!!! GAH! I want one, with a bow on top!!!

S.E. Hall brought all of my favorite characters back together again with this incredible, perfect love story that had me humming and smiling and SINGING!!! I love when you find a follow up book that is just as FANTASTIC as the first.

Her writing is pure magic, you will love EVERY SINGLE WORD!!! Thank you, SE for making me one happy pretty girl. LOVED IT!!!
