One of my favourite genres is wholesome regency fiction that makes you feel deeply and lends a positive message and theme throughout the story. I am SO glad I've found Carolyn Miller's books. They are true gems. I especially love the setting in this book (the first in the Legacy of Grace trilogy), and both the male and female protagonists are interesting, layered, and their steady pull toward one another is like the inescapable grip of the tide.
And let's not forget the host of support characters that lend excellent colour and flavour to the flow and plot of the story!
A thoroughly enjoyable read.

"The Elusive Miss Ellison will delight the hearts of Regency romance lovers with its poetic narrative, witty verbal swordplay, strict social constructs, and intriguing touch of mystery. Carolyn Miller is a bright new voice in the Regency genre, and I look forward to reading more of her charming stories."-- (10/31/2016)
"Lovers of Jane Austen will be enchanted by Carolyn Miller's debut novel--especially readers who want to know more about the hero's journey to adoring their Regency heroine. This beautifully written book is definitely worth reading!"-- (10/31/2016)

"The Elusive Miss Ellison is a delightful romp. Light and enjoyable, but also rich with the theme of forgiveness. A lovely read."-- (10/31/2016)
"Fans of historical romance will love Carolyn Miller's debut novel. Nicholas's journey from proud, self-centered man to caring and devoted suitor will capture the reader's heart as it did Lavinia's. With just the right touch of inspiration and interesting historical detail, Carolyn transports you back to Regency England."-- (10/31/2016)
"In The Elusive Miss Ellison, Carolyn Miller has created a heroine who will steal your heart and a hero who is as frustrating as he is charming. With unexpected twists and turns, the story stays true to the times. The scenes in the English countryside as well as in London will capture the imagination of those who love the Regency period and win over those who are experiencing the era for the first time."-- (10/31/2016)

"From the moment I cracked the pages I was transported to another era with a heroine as compelling as Lizzie Bennet and a Darcy-esque hero."-- (10/31/2016)
"With compelling characters and an engaging story, encapsulated by the romantic era of Regency England, Carolyn Miller's writing style is reminiscent of Jane Austen, with a modern sense of wit and spunk. Lavinia is a spirited heroine who will leave you smiling to the very last page, and despite the initial presumption of a disinterested, battle-scarred war hero, Nicholas quickly sneaks his way into your heart. This minister's daughter and guilt-laden earl are supported by an ensemble cast who keep you turning the pages. You'll be swept into a story of God's amazing grace and the slow unfolding of a love that overcomes even the greatest opposition."-- (10/31/2016) --This text refers to an alternate kindle_edition edition.

I thoroughly enjoyed Carolyn Miller’s debut novel, The Elusive Miss Ellison. It was sheer pleasure to sit and read for hours on end.
Miss Livinia Ellison the daughter of reverend Ellison loves the people in her small village of St. Hampton Heath. Her position as the reverends daughter allows her to care for her friends and to see first hand the neglect of the landed gentry of the area show to the poor crofters.
When Lord Nicholas Stamford the seventh earl of Hawkesbury returns to his estate Miss Ellison is determined to make his see his duty of care.
Lord Stamford already weighed down with guilt over past indiscretions and haunted by his time at war cannot abide the constant lectures and reminders of his duty from the forward young miss.
As the two clash against each other and start to see deeper undercurrents of their respective natures, hostility turns to grudging respect and then admiration.
But will Lord Stamford ever be able to put aside his societal and family obligations and marry someone who is not from a wealthy, titled family? And what happens when Lavinia discovers a family secret that will challenge everything she has been taught about society?
Caroline Miller’s debut novel is delightful, utterly swoon worthy and lots of fun. Fans of Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer will be enchanted.

What a pleasure it was to read this book. Fun and clever, yet thought provoking and deep. Miss Ellison was lovable and I connected with her straight away. The hero grew on me just as he grew on Miss Ellison until I had great respect and admiration for him. I went on a journey of compassion, hope, grief and love with each of the characters, but most of all, on a journey of spiritual growth and understanding. I’m thrilled to find an Aussie author so gifted with words. She has the ability to take her readers deep into the heart and soul of her characters, and into another time and place. The unexpected turns in the plot kept me hooked and the banter between the characters was satisfying in every way. The joy shared with the characters in the satisfying finish still hasn’t left me. I am desperate to read this author’s next book and am delighted she is sharing her gift with the world

A witty regency romance for Jane Austen fans with a strong dash of faith. I admit I found the most elusive character at the start to be the Earl. I found him difficult to get but all is clear in the end. The journey to belief is well done and the banter was fun and there were some great plot twists. An enjoyable book all round that deserves all the hype it is getting. Oh and love the cover.

Wow, what a wonderful book. It captured my attention right at the beginning and didn't let go. All the characters developed nicely. The theme of forgiveness was beautifully portrayed. What I liked most was the verbal fencing all the way through. Truly a delightful book. Hope the rest is as good.

This is a very enjoyable Christian romance, especially if you're a lover of Austen. The language and storyline are both clearly inspired by Austen yet this novel stands alone with its own voice and drama. I'm looking forward to the next book!

What a refreshingly lovely book (no apologies for adverbs). I enjoyed reading this book immensely. Ms Miller's style is adorable. Without a doubt ... a modern version of Jane Austen with the same Regency flair. 5+ stars

Likeable characters and a story with a few twists and turns; I haven't read a lot of novels set in this era and felt it a little long in parts but a good storyline.

A lovely story
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 July 2018Verified Purchase
I was attracted to this story because of the lovely cover. It's a Regency romance and the image is of a woman wearing Regency period dress. Sometimes authors mistakenly use a Victorian image which I find annoying.
The Elusive Miss Ellison is a sweet love story and in places beautifully written. There were some surprises to the story that held my interest, although I found extracts from the Bible rather off-putting and thought it might prejudice readers who are not religious.
I was slightly confused about how members of the English peerage were addressed. For example, the daughter of a duke, marquess and earl would be addressed as Lady (christian name). The fact that some of the female members were addressed as Lady (surname), put me in a quandary if they were wives or daughters of peers.
However, this was a lovely story and fully deserves four stars.

I am a fan of Jane Austin. I can see her works echoed in this story and it !takes me smile. I enjoyed it immensely. The thread of faith and a relationship with God is expertly woven throughout adds an extra layer . Looking forward to reading the next in the series.
