I think he's done a great job here of putting together a spin on the anti Christ. Films like the Exorcist have always been a favourite but I've always thought its a difficult subject to transcribe, to get that real sense of horror and ickiness from demonic possession, but so far I'm really enjoying it.
I like how the characters are slowly developed and all are highly flawed. There is perhaps a touch too much of the constantly shifting timeline though I can appreciate how he's trying to let things slowly unravel and show the meticulous detailing of the grand design throughout several life times.
Personally I like things nasty and I hope the next instalment ramps things up as the other three hint at. It's quite rare to find an author that is willing to get out an exciting, dark and gritty book without it being one of those awful cheesy extreme gore books that has very little in the way of story line, depth, characters and grammar.
This book is well thought out, rounded, researched and is extremely enjoyable (If you like the subject matter) I'm looking forward to book 4, will pre-order with no hesitation. Rick, please get meaner, I can take it :)
