Leaving an abusive life behind is not a crime.

Katarina Roberts’ only goal is to get the hell out of Belmont, and the further away, the better. After living with an abusive mother most of her life, her brother Drew, part of the town's notorious Knight Crime family, is doing everything he can to help her attend school at UCLA.

Cole Knight is being groomed to take over the Knight family business. A lethal combination of sexy and dangerous, he has no interest in a relationship... until he meets Kat. Cole wants Kat, and will stop at nothing to have her and keep her, and make her part of the ‘family’.

Kat and Cole have an explosive connection from the first moment they lay eyes on one another.

Now, Kat faces the hardest choice of her life… Cole or UCLA? Cole would mean dealing with everything that comes from being a "Knight." A world where you are constantly worrying about your loved ones being hurt or possibly worse. But loving him makes it seem worth it. Or does she stick with the plan to get as far away from Belmont as possible? Will she give up her dreams of UCLA for Cole?

This book left me wanting to read more to find out what is going to happen next, kat has had a really horrible up bringing and her mum is a complete bitch, im pleased that she and cole get together and kat becomes apart of a knight family .... she has a father figure, a sister and more brothers to love, I love how kat starts to find her way in becoming part of a family even if they are a little lucrative....

I was a lucky winner in Mari's Release Day Takeover on one of the many Facebook book blogger pages I follow. There was no expectation what so ever for me to review this book. But I LOVED it, and I'm a big fan of Support Indie Authors....so try and stop me from reviewing this book! I loved it that much I bought the second book damn near straight away!

OK. So my thoughts. Well Mari makes crime seem hot. I mean, Cole Knight and his brother and father are hot too, and they all make crime seem hot, yet Cole makes it smoulder under his penetrating gaze and panty-wetting good looks. We meet Cole when he comes with Kat's brother to rescue her from the latest of their mothers douche bag boyfriends. Straight away there is a sexual tension between them, and yet Kat is strong in her belief's in what she wants from life and where she wants to go in life. To be honest I doubt I would have the strength that she has to be as strong as she is for sticking to her guns with Cole.
I enjoyed this book to the point that I couldn't put it down until I damn near finished it, it was only the 3.30am time check that had me putting it down without realising there was only one chapter left.
Mari wrote such steamy scenes that I was disappointed my husband was actually asleep, or he could have taken advantage of the wonderful desires evoked from simply reading.
I daren't say any more for fear of spoiling the book and giving away the story line. So instead I will tell you...go and buy this book...buy it now! Go on....BUY IT!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely loved it!!! 25 June 2014

Cole Knight and Kat are one hell of a sexy couple. Kat and her brother Drew grew up with a horrible mother. Drew was fortunate enough to move out and start working for the Knight family. Kat was stuck living under her mother's roof. Her mother basically had a revolving door when it came to the men in her life. Which left it a very dangerous situation for Kat. The only thing saving Kat is school and her hopes and dreams of getting out of Belmont. One thing leads to another and Kat is living with her best friend Juliana and her brother Justin in the Knight family mansion. Just so happens that their brother Cole is also Drew's best friend. Sparks fly between Cole and Kat or Kitten as Cole likes to call her. One thing you should know is that the Knight family is pretty powerful and you wouldn't want to cross them. Kat has a hard decision to make... Keep striving for college at UCLA or stand by her mans side. My favorite line in the book is very fitting for Kat's spitfire attitude. "P*ssy is power."

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed....good but then it went downhill quickly - Spoilers included 2 July 2014
By Justirishgirl - Published on Amazon.com

SPOILERS: Initially I enjoyed reading the book. It started off interesting, keeping my attention. I love a jealous possessive heroes and can handle instant love so in the beginning, I was happy. Cole and Kat meet, and there are major sparks and eventually hot scenes. So far so good. Then Kat's immature, selfish and just cra cra personality emerges. She is inserting herself where she does not belong, cussing too much (which normally I can handle just fine but with her...so not) and generally acting like a hormonal witch. As the book continues she continues to act badly and near the end she and the story goes off the rails. People are being kidnapped and beat. She is attacking bad guys and has to be saved. Then the book ends when she her and Cole are separated, she goes to college out of state. We get a preview of the next book and looks like she (and I assume he) are sleeping with other people...special..no thanks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great story of love and sacrifice. 8 July 2016

I loved Katarina, Kat from the very beginning of this story and wanted to see her find her own happiness. She grew up in and abusive home of a mother who never loved her. Her older brother, Drew, has moved out which allows this abuse to worsen. Kat refuses to let him know and continues to live with an unloving mother and the emotional and physical abuse. She also has to avoid the advances from her mother's boyfriends as well.

Cole first sees Kat when she is drunk, underage and hanging on a man at a club. He decides then and there that he will have her but waits for her to get older. Drew convinces Kat that night that she needs to focus on school and get into college and out of their own hell in this town.

Two years go by and Cole is there again when Kat calls Drew for help. They end up moving Kat out of her mom's home and into the Knight family home for the last six months of high school. Cole's life is dangerous as Kat starts to get more involved with his family that she needs her own body guard to protect her.

Kat decides to get her brother to help her become more able to defend herself. Then tragedy strikes when two members of the Knight family are kidnapped. Kat is desperate to get them back and even contacts people from her past for help.

While all of this is going on Kat is struggling. UCLA or Cole? Will she stay or will she go? Is their love strong enough to survive a 4 year separation?

Mari's writing style made this an easy read which kept me up way too late last night. I am so looking forward to getting into the next book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Speechless 9 June 2016

That's how I feel after reading this book, speechless!!! Let me try to explain how A-Maz-ing this book was. First Cole, totally in line to win the hot alpha possessive book boyfriend award! Kat, tough, strong, hot tempered, not afraid to speak her mind, absolutely no filter. I loved this girl!!! Side characters great, story unique, Seth so cute an adorable 4 yr old. Trish super bit*h, between her and Kat' s mom they are tied for worst mother of the year!!! Sexual tension through the roof! This was a brilliant book that I recommend reading, 4.5 stars. Would have been 5 but with Kat' s insistence to go to UCLA, it kinda got old. I mean I can kinda see her point but after meeting Cole and the rest of the Knight family it just seemed stupid, immature and selfish. She has some growing up to do, but hay she is only 18, we're all alittle stupid at that age!!! One click buy, book was free at the time of this review, so you have nothing to lose and only enjoyment to gain! Not a cliffhanger but a continued story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great start to a new series. 27 June 2014
By Melinda - Published on Amazon.com

This book was really amazing & I read it in one sitting...couldn't put it down! The plot is pretty unrealistic but sometimes you need a fantasy world to forget about "real life". The "Mob" aspect is a huge part of the book so there is plenty of domineering men & lots of action, along with some great bedroom scenes. The thing that made it a four star & not a five star for me was the fact that I didn't realize when I bought the book the story would continue with the main leads in the next book in the series, so basically no HEA yet...well hopefully. That's just a big deal for me to know when I start a book. But I will buying the next one when it comes out!
