The Ecstasy Beyond Knowing represents the distilled wisdom of Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan’s long lifetime of spiritual seeking and experiences, his dialogues and deep friendships with other mystics and spiritual teachers, and his explorations into the nature of reality with scientists and philosophers.Meditation techniques are explained in detail along with the principles behind them, including practices with breath, light, energy, sound and mantram, inspired visualizations, and the Sufi dhikr. The Sufi process and stages of transformation are interwoven with those of Hinduism, Buddhism, the Jewish Kabbalah, the glorification of the Christian Mass, and the alchemical process of self-transfiguration. The height, depth and breadth of mystical experiences are integrated with the insights of psychology and contemporary scientific discoveries, and the creativity inherent in all human nature is invoked to aid in transforming and beautifying the personality as well as the world. Pir Vilayat reveals the way to develop a deep connection with the soul and spirit, and offers advice on maintaining the awareness and integrity of that connection through the joys and sorrows, challenges and adventures of everyday life. “Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan’s Ecstasy Beyond Knowing is a unique and monumental guidebook, the fruit of a lifetime’s experience in teaching and guiding meditation for the most diverse audiences around the world. It is at once a comprehensive practical handbook for meditation, covering such basic subjects as working with the breath, sound, and levels of consciousness; a wide-ranging comparative study of interpretive and theoretical accounts of meditation in Sufi, Hindu, Buddhist and Kabbalistic traditions; and an insightful, suggestive guide for the integration of one’s meditation practice in the wider processes and stages of individual spiritual growth.” Professor James W. Morris, Boston College
Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan (1916 2004) was the son and spiritual successor of Hazrat Inayat Khan. During his fifty years as head of the Sufi Order International, Pir Vilayat became an internationally recognized spiritual teacher and master of meditation. Incorporating the mystical heritage and scholarship of both East and West into his teachings, Pir Vilayat initiated dozens of international inter-religious conferences, and brought together spiritual and scientific leaders in public dialogues to explore their shared understandings of the nature of reality.

A Book To Last A Lifetome9 March 2015 - Published on Amazon.com
Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan was a master at meditation. This book is like going to his workshops, and is rich and deep. There are many practices that you can work on for a long time. And parts will stay with you, like his invocation: We invoke the One, Whose Body is the cosmos of the galaxy and our own bodies; Whose Mind courses through our thinking; And whose Ecstasy arouses our acts of glorification; Whose Personality is customized as our personalities; Whose Presence is always there; Whose Consciousness is focalized as our consciousness; And Whose Reality is beyond our reach.

Since human culture is an outcome of the workings of the human mind, our best hope for personal as well as planetary renewal and ennoblement is the meditative practice of modulating consciousness in the light of Spirit. Toward this end, Pir Vilayat's posthumous manual of meditation is a consummate resource. Anchored in the lexicon of classical Sufism, but universal in vision and infused with insights drawn from Yoga, Buddhism, Kabbalah, Hermeticism, and quantum physics, The Ecstasy Beyond Knowing dispenses unique maps to the subtle perceptual fields that successively span the gulf between the individual diurnal mind and the deep silence of the Eternal. Defying the banal hegemonies of materialism and dogmatism, Pir Vilayat articulates a contemplative worldview that seamlessly integrates science, art, and esoteric knowledge. In brief, the The Ecstasy Beyond Knowing is a triumph of inner discovery--an epiphanic book.
