The characters are paper thin, the descriptions tedious, and the thoughts of the main character overwhelm the rest of the text. The book ends somehow with an even less satisfying conclusion than "Lost," on which it is obviously heavily based.
Side-note about the content. This bills itself somewhat as a YA/teen novel (based on the publisher) but the profanity is frequent and definitely R-rated. I wouldn't recommend for teens.
Fiona Wolf is a well-known kickboxer with titles and trophies and when she receives a surprising all-expenses-paid internship from Briola Bio-Tech to go to Berlin with a fellow student from her school she is very excited. Until she finds out her schoolmate is the pompous Miles Echo, the spoiled rich boy who called her pathetic the first time he met her. However, that was the least of her problems. Receiving a warning from an old friend “to trust no one” was the beginning of a race for their lives and a search for the truth.
Fiona and Miles grew up in very different environments, but the more time they spend together and get to know one another, they find things they have in common. Particularly, trusting each other and respecting each other’s courage, intelligence, and determination to stay alive and seek the truth about what is happening to them.
Overall, this is an extremely intense and absorbing psychological suspense thriller with surprises around every corner. I couldn’t put this book down and stay tuned for my review of book 2 on June 10. If you like psychological thrillers that have a mind-blowing ending, give this one a try.
I still don't know what became of the teens on the island. But not sure I care enough to read a sequel.
The ideas for this story seemed like good ones...she just couldn't keep me following along.
