A perfect Regency romance!

This book reminded me very much of Georgette Heyer's book "These Old Shades". It was the style and the main characters mainly but only in the best way. It contains all the elements needed for a Regency Romance: a smuggler earl, a dispossessed nob!e woman, a villain and love misunderstood!
It is a novel for adults 18+ but at no time devolves into erotica or explicit sex.

Honestly I found the depiction of the leading lady quite disturbing. She was doting and constantly filled with adoration for the man, more often than not with no reason. Even he constantly comments on how she is always staring at him with adoration and with her trailing after him throughout the entire thing, it’s a little uncomfortable. Especially since the way he treats her furthers the feeling that she is more of a pet than a woman.

Also there was so much incorrect French I found it hard to forgive after a while.

This is a love story between a woman who has fallen on hard times and the man who's life she saved. He is determined not to allow his feelings to develop as he believes that he is too old for her which frustrates all around him. We all know where this is going and it was a little long winded, but the book was free and well written.

I loved this book and the author. This was a really good story with lots of twists and turns. The characters were so well portrayed and very likeable and I want more!
I started by reading book3 in this series and then discovered U already had book 2 so now I am in a dilemma as I want to read book four or should I read book 1 first? I obviously have a lot of catching up to do. U strongly recommend this series .

Loved it. This whole series is brilliant, but I think this is the best (the first five, at least), although I liked them all, especially the first one. It is well-written, very holding, has good characters and an interesting story. What more could you want? I liked this one so much, that I bought it to keep, despite having read it already on Kindle Unlimited. I'm looking forward to the sixth one very soon.
