After wearing these shoes for a few months, I have to admit that I have come to seriously regret this purchase. What Ecco did with the last on the Vitus is a departure from their usual style. I have always worn their size 45 or 46 without a problem, depending on the last. The Vitus is so different that the 46 ends up being just a bit too long, breaking in just the wrong place for me. While a similar pair brogues (different brand) purchased at about the same time has become more comfortable, the Vitus has become more painful to wear. I have reduced my rating from an initial 5 to 3 for this reason. The support and comfort that the undersole provides is still there. There is no question about it that this is a very supportive shoe. However, I have been buying Eccos for at least 10 years now and I have never had a real problem with them until the Vitus. If you suspect that the shoe is slightly off when you try it on the first time, you may want to skip this model and choose something else. They are not going to improve over time in my experience.
Original review below:
What a comfortable shoe right out of the box. I have gone through many Ecco shoes before. This beats them all and rightfully so I might say considering the price. I ordered one size up (46 rather than 45) because the last on these is a bit narrow as most wingtips tend to be. The denim blue version was a bit lighter in color than shown here. Mine came with a wrinkle on top of the toe box due to wrong stitching. The natural that I ordered as an exchange came perfect, fortunately. Excellent quality.
On a positive note they do feel ok, even though they're pretty heavy, they don't need to be broken in for the most part, however, as I said before, it given the opportunity to return them hassle-free I would go for it, they're not worth the asking price, not anymore.
Leather is not deep black because the it appears to look minimally distressed, so I applied black polish to give it a more professional deep black finish.
Good quality and would recommend, especially for those who walk frequently, i.e., between buildings. I have had two wood soles, which were not comfortable at all for common walking.
