Lest Brooks, a young man living what seems to be the perfect life, good home, wealthy parents, famous surgeon for a father. But Kray's life is far from perfect. His father is cruel and abusive treating Kray's like nothing more than an extension of himself. His mother is no better staying with the man for the love of money and never protecting her son. The only bright light in Kray's life is Rori but even she can't shield him from the threats of his father. So he does the only thing he thinks will help and runs, becoming a drifter in life, a nobody living off the grid until the day comes when Rori appears.
Rori hasn't had things easy either but has made a success of herself. Her world however is turned on its axis when she sees a man playing music for money on the street. It doesn't take long to find out who that man is.
I loved that underneath all the pain that Rori really wanted to help Kray and that he found it so difficult to accept that help, it's not easy to slip back into society when you've been apart from it for so long. Thankfully he'd had Muriel, his mother figure, in the years prior. They kept each other going.
My only complaint is that there were times I felt as if the author had swallowed a thesaurus and was determined to use every descriptive word in one paragraph. There were times I felt the characters thoughts got weighed down by words and I lost track of what was happening. There were also a few typos and words used that didn't seem to go with the meaning being conveyed. But I did really enjoy the ride regardless.
