Two stars because I can't say that I HATE itReviewed in the United States on 22 July 2013
I tried my best, but didn't even get halfway through. The writing at first didn't start out bad, but it gets very poetic and frilly, and very disjointed. It's hard to see how the concepts and thought processes are put together for the characters. An interesting time travel/crossover idea, but not very well played out. The perspectives change rapidly and have huge time gaps so it's hard to catch up on what happened to the characters since you were last with them; you're left to guess a lot. A little disappointing; it may be someone else's cup of tea but I'm going to sell it at the nearest used book store...

In Dreams beginReviewed in the United States on 20 December 2011
The story is interesting, the writing poetic, and I love the way it makes me feel. I love that it makes me think. Now I wonder what other intriguing questions linger in Skylar White's mind, and also what provocative way she'll find to illuminate the truth of her heart, and perhaps mine as well. I've felt the draw of love at first sight-still real after 38 years, felt doubt and wonder at my choices, searched for the value of my life's creations, whether it be a commitment, a small daily gesture, or a move that changes everything. And I've known gratitude for a part of me having been saved by a soul mate. I loved this book.
Wow.Reviewed in the United States on 9 January 2012
Really, really well-written. The cover art for this book makes it seem like it's going to be something different -- something a little cheesier, I think. Instead, I was really pleasantly surprised to find a deep, weighty, interesting, complicated novel. The writing is the kind that makes me read slowly so I can savor the language. I can't wait for more from Ms. White.
Luscious and MagicalReviewed in the United States on 1 December 2010
I've read a lot of time-travel books, and Skyler's take on a modern woman's experience falling into Victorian Britain through a magical rite is one of the most sensual, satisfying, and unusual ones I've found. The book is dense, more poetry than prose in many ways, and weaves together the stories of many relationships into a tight cord so that it's hard to put down. It reminds me of Iris Murdoch in its richness. It's delightful to have White's second book share a few details with her first but otherwise be a very different story, and I can't wait to see what she decides to share next.
