This book is a real jumble of many genres. There is a steamy medieval romance that I think is the most successful aspect. There is a 'days of our lives' family drama that also works well. Thrown into the mix is a da Vinci code type drama, monks and all, that just doesn't work for me.
After teaming up with a medieval party girl (who keeps rushing off into the bushes for roadside nookie) Catherine Percy is coerced into marrying the party girl’s fiance, handsome Earl Athol. Of course Athol is hot and Catherine soon succumbs to his charms. Taken to Athol's castle Catherine is introduced to a haughty mother in law, a woman who Athol was meant to marry, secret passageways and a thieving rebel. Sometimes it makes sense, other times not really, but it all charges along at a great pace. It's a fun read if you leave your literary expectations at the door.
