I will give no spoilers—only my comments. First of all I have to say this is my most favorite book of her series, hands down. Burke’s fine development of her characters and the creative elements she pours into her magical fantasy make me believe that I am there, experiencing with them all the magic that is produced. You cannot but help rooting for both Kadmeion and Bright as they go through intense personal struggles as they try to fight their way through difficult circumstances.
I remember visiting a library when I was in my teen years, pulling book after book off the shelves in the fantasy section. I only remember looking at stories that jumped right into complex plots, unlikeable wizards, and unpronounceable names. If I had read this book back then, I would wanted to read anything Lita wrote from then on. Instead I found myself placing book after book back on the shelf with disappointment. This type of story, however, will have young readers asking for more.
If you enjoy fantasy and magic along with clean reading, you cannot go wrong with this book. Children will love it and adults will appreciate it. It’s the kind of story that makes me not want to stop reading. Highly recommended.
