Product description

Product Description

Another place lies palm to palm with the world we know. Downside, Earth’s backdoor, where magic, madness and monstrosities abide; where rain falls from a cloudless red sky and neon pulses day and night.

A fallen angel in a derelict tower weeps crystal tears.
A powerful man hides a dark secret.
Wraiths skim through the streets, hunting monsters.

Rain and Castle dispose of monsters, be they mischievous but relatively benign sprites or ghouls which don't limit their feasting to the recently dead. When the hunters become the hunted, they must survive attacks by demons and Gettaholt citizens compelled by powerful magic. Who is trying to kill them, and why? Can a wraith die twice?

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting new world 16 October 2013
By C Thilmany - Published on Amazon.com

Downside; a realm within the Earth where the monsters dwell, and we aren't talking about Hell. We meet trolls, gnomes, vampires, sirens, shifters, demons, fallen angels, elves and a whole host of others who aren't comfortable living on the surface, or who would terrify humans if their presence was known. Rain is a wraith and has a business with her wraith mentor, Castle, where they take out or even relocate the more pesky monsters in their Downside town of Gettaholt. There are definite advantages and disadvantages to being a wraith.

The story follows Rain on both an action-packed and emotional journey. We do get some limited first person point of views from three others close to her when she's not on scene, giving us a better idea on what others are thinking and doing.

I found an interesting world in Downside and was grabbed right away by Rain and what she experiences. This appears to be a stand alone, although I think there is plenty here that could continue the story in a number of directions.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a great imagination Linda Welch has 10 July 2014

What a great imagination Linda Welch has, her stories are a new and refreshing take on creatures good and evil, myth and fairytale and this story has many of them.

I would buy anything Linda wrote. She has such an amazing way of hooking you from the first page. Her worlds and the people in them, the way she brings them to life right from the get-go, is fantastic.

If you haven't read this book or her Whispering series, don't wait, read them now, you won't be disappointed.

Did I say amazing? WELL I definitely meant it, every syllable of the word, to describe the action, character formation, plot, and incredible imagination of Mrs. Linda Welch! As an avid reader, I have a distinctive sense of good literature, below and beyond, and Linda Welch definitely excels in her style of writing! She now has a new loyal fan and follower of her writings!

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting new world and characters to explore 22 May 2014
By Dawn S - Published on Amazon.com

This new one from Welch was really good. As with her Whisperings story, the author has gone and created a whole other world for us to explore along with interesting beings that are creatively different than your average characters. Although she has touched on creatures of myth and legend, she has also taken them to another level that makes them new and intriguing. I can not wait to see where she goes with this because I really enjoyed the first book.
