Ursina Arn-Grischott is THE book to buy to unlock the mysteries of double weave and fly.
Arn-Grischott wrote: "Double cloths are subject to simple mathematical rules. Once the principle is understood, you can construct complex double cloth. The technique is most easily learned with double weave on four shafts in plain weave."
Attempting to wrap your head around the theory as precursor to the practice will drive you crazy. Read a little, practice a lot, think about the principles you've read, consolidate. As Arn-Grischott said, the mathematical rules are simple, so practice your way into comprehending them.
By the way, I have contacted InterWeave press about issuing a reprint and informed of the demand for this book. InterWeave never replied. It's bad customer service and poor fiscal sense.

This book came much faster than I anticipated. I paid much more for it than I normally pay for a book but it's a very valuable resource for me. It was in great shape, and is a valuable part of my reference library.

Doubleweave on Fourto Eight Shafts
Reviewed in the United States on 11 October 2011Verified Purchase
I find this to be one of the best written books on a single weaving topic. If you want her to spoon feed you projects that you can just weave from this isn't the book but if you want to be able to learn to weave anything in doubleweave this book is what you want. I find the print very small and she has print over pictures at times which makes it very hard to read those items but other than that an excellent book.
