Not often I give a five star review but I liked this book very much.
A little implausible that two people had a name/life style change but other than that the story kept up a good pace as well as keeping you guessing.
A bit gruesome at times but that was in keeping with the psycho style killings.
This is obviously the first book in a series about this particular town/couple so I can only imagine a hint of romance will be included as they go along.
Will definitely buy more from this author.

First time I've read a D K Hood novel. She is now on my future must read list. Storyline moved along really well. I enjoyed that anticipation of picking it up and reading more after reluctantly having to turn the light out and get some sleep.

Absolutely fantastic thank you. Such a brilliant book and highly addicting, nail biting and so on. I had to make myself stop reading for everyday routine. It was so intense and the twists were astounding. Thought I had it worked out then bang other way around. Such a great book I highly recommend.

Yay a new and exciting author to read. I loved this book and thought the story line was great. Reading this produced a sense of tension and even made me lock the door after hubby left for work! I will be getting part two of this series asap. :-)

Excellent First in Series

Sheriff's Deputy David Kane moved to Montana after a car bomb killed his wife, left him grief stricken, and with a metal plate bolted into his skull to try and complete his recuperation. Hoping for a quiet life after his traumatic recent past he realises that might not be the case when he rescues his new boss, Sheriff Jenna Alton, after she is forced off the road in a hit and run incident.
When a missing person case turns into a murder investigation Jenna and Dave have to work together to find a deranged killer while still learning to trust each other. Will the secrets from their past lives prevent them from solving the homicide before more lives are lost or could their first case together also be their last?
Although this is the first in the Detectives Kane and Alton series it takes off at a gallop and never lets up. The two main protagonists are instantly likeable and the description of other regular characters, locations, and weather conditions paint a picture easy to envisage and even though Jenna is convinced nothing ever happens in Black Rock Falls the fact this is the first in eight (current) books goes to show she is sadly mistaken.
I was able to read an advanced copy of a later book in this series and loved it. This first book is of an equally high standard and if anyone wants a brilliant character driven series to become engrossed in they need to look no further.

Chilling story in a snowy Montana
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 February 2018Verified Purchase
I have to say, I love this cover. It totally encapsulates the premise of the story; it’s winter in Montana and the town we’re heading to is predominantly surrounding by farmland. So what better an image to have than a snow covered farm building. And this story is dark just like the cover’s backdrop.
I felt cold reading this. I am not a fan of venturing out in the snow – I’m a sun loving, warmth loving human so spending 344 pages in an extremely snowy Montana hunting a stalker and a killer chilled me to the bone!!! Saying that, I was there in Black Rock Falls driving the SUV with Kane and Alton trying to piece together the clues.
I was totally flummoxed by who the culprit is. Normally I settle on either one or two characters as my suspect (irrespective of being right or wrong) but with D K Hood’s murder mystery, I could not narrow it down. Half the county were under suspicion!!
And the partnership between the sheriff and her new deputy!! With their previous lives lending themselves to their crime fighting partnership, Black Rock Falls should be in safe hands, if it weren’t for those pesky criminals! I sense there is potential for chemistry of the romantic variety but would that spoil the story? Maybe… having the secret pasts between them adds the element of intrigue.
I thoroughly enjoyed this sinister crime thriller and I’m really looking forward to reading Bring Me Flowers.

4.25⭐ A great introduction to Detectives Kane and Alton
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 February 2021Verified Purchase
Don't Tell a Soul is a great introduction to detectives Kane and Alton, and having recently devoured the latest book (out 24/2) featuring these two, I was keen to see how it all started; and this story did not disappoint. As I was gripped and it truly kept me guessing. Although, I did have an inkling into whom the killer was, and I was right, but it was purely luck on my part and no reflection on the storyline, which was well-written, perfectly paced and tightly plotted.
And with intriguing characters, and just the beginnings of the Kane/Alton partnership on display I found it genuinely hard to put this story down, and am now eagerly looking forward to reading book two.
Would recommend.

I bought this book as the audible addition and I think what distracted from the story was the female reader trying to sound like a man when it was a male person speaking in the story. She put on such a strange voice that is became quite annoying. I quite enjoyed the story and hope that the two main characters relationship will be developed further in the next books in the series.

What a great start to a new series.
I’ve had this on my Kindle for ages and saw that the next book is out on 26 February so thought I’d better read it, and I’m glad I did.
Detective Kane moves to Black Rock Falls for his new job as deputy Sheriff and on his first night meets Sheriff Alton very suddenly...
They both have secrets and this book only touches on them slightly so I’m looking forward to finding out about what they’ve both been through in future books.
Kane and Alton are faced with people going missing in the town and can’t figute out the motive at first. Alton has also been threatened and it turns into a real race against time at the end of the book.
I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the next one.
