About Dixie Maria Carlton
Dixie Maria Carlton has been writing business books for herself and assisting hundreds of authors worldwide to create, publish, and promote their books since 2006. She is an award winning business person and author, with clients who have also become multi award winners under her guidance to help their own brands and/or stories become highly recognised. In 2019 Dixie merged her company with Independent Ink, and formed Indie Experts P/L with Ann Dettori Wilson, to offer unique publishing and marketing services for non-fiction authors.
NON-FICTION titles are mostly business and marketing based. 'Authority Island: Why some authors become authorities and others just write books' is her latest work in 2020.
'From Idea to Author-ity', 'Branding, Marketing & Advertising 101 for SME's', and 'Widgets, Doodads & Business Gifts' features much of the information Dixie is highly sought after by clients wanting to improve their branding, story-telling ability as part of their marketing, and to become 'famous' to their markets.
FICTION titles by Dixie Carlton are mostly the stories or biographies of real people who have inspired her. Written as fiction gives her the creative license to explore more deeply the reasons why people are the way they are, and do the things they do. Her novels are described as well paced page-turners with excellent sexual and dramatic context. Romance with a Kick? Well, according to Dixie, that's what real life is usually about - romance and love with a spicy kick, unless you're the boring stay at home type.

◆What Non Fiction Authors Really Need to Know About Publishing a Book◆
Whether you’re writing non-fiction ebooks, or selling your expertise as a writer of blogs and articles, the business of being a writer is exactly that, a business. It’s a business for authors and experts who speak, retired professionals, people who have something to say and maybe want to change their corner of the world in some way. But what many authors don’t realise is that once the book is written, then the hard work begins as you tackle the difference between being an author vs authority.
This book covers areas authors need to know including file uploading, publishing options, social media, media training, planning your book and speaking professionally about your topic. These are the things many authors are totally unaware of at the start of their writing and publishing journey, but are critical to the success of any book.
Authority Island is a fictional tale describing the respective experiences of three non-fiction authors.
- Independent Sue wants to do it all herself, learning mostly from the internet and a few she meets along the way. Not really wanting to put too much effort into her marketing, Sue gets to Authority Island and learns just how unprepared she is for what happens after her book is ready to publish on Amazon.
- Bob has tapped into a lot of resources and feels confident about what he needs to do as an author and speaker, but discovers he still has a lot to do in order to master becoming an authority – despite all he’s so far invested and done to be ready for his publishing journey.
- Kris however, works closely with people who can help her at every step of the way, so that her own learning curve is much smoother as she navigates her way around collecting the Five Keys of Authority she needs to open the Mystical Gate at the far end of the Island.
★This book is NOT an author training manual, but a story demonstrating valuable insights into what most authors need to know about:
- publicity,
- promotion,
- branding,
- social media,
- and being an author who speaks about their expertise★
"Authority Island is a Masterclass of what authors need to know about sharing their wisdom by writing a non-fiction book" Steve Lowell, CSP and Author of Deep Thought Strategy
"This book lays out the obstacles facing any aspiring authority, and give them hope in their darkest hours, and grounding when they fly too high." David Pisarra, Head Ghost, American Ghost Media LLC
If you Need Spare Cash, or Want a Profitable Retirement Hobby
There’s a lot of money to be made buying and selling old stuff. I spent a few years being part of an industry that takes trash and treasure seriously – and learned a lot about how some things are valued, what people like to collect, and why some people want to downsize, or get rid of old things.
This book is based on two parts – first, how to get rid of your own old things and get the best money for them if you want to take the time to do that. The second part is focused on how to identify the value and history behind either your own or other people’s old stuff.
Buy understanding what you actually have and how others might value it, you can better sell it at the right time, for the best money and move on to other things. If you are an avid collector, or seeking to start collecting something others might also want one day, you will be better prepared every time you visit a second hand dealer store – knowing what people want to buy, helps you to better sell.

◆The story continues...
Margaret McKenzie was unmarried, unhurried, but fiercely determined, to do whatever it took to get her children back. Her lover’s mother had taken them when Margaret was suspected of the murder of his wife.
A complex tale of lust, love, betrayal, and revenge finally led to her arrival in Sydney, in 1954. An even more sinister series of unfortunate relationships will be sorely tested before this family is reunited, and mystery continues to surround the man who has been stalking Margaret since she was a young girl. Thomas is watching her, Nathaniel has lost her, and now Gregory is protecting her. There can be only one winner here. And that is Margaret.
Follow Margaret as she returns to the swinging club scene and sings her way into a new world of opportunity and revenge - playing by her own rules in a time when women are limited in their choices.

Realizing she’d put her friend through some considerable distress, Solange cleared her throat before speaking in a dark voice that came from the very depths of her soul. “I’m sorry, I should have been clearer. This is simply a gift I was delivered overnight, and I believe you’ll be delighted by it. But first, my dear, please take a seat and enjoy a cup of tea. Let’s get you a little more relaxed first, shall we? There, there, dear, it’s going to be fine.”
★
Solange put a hot cup of tea down in front of Margaret and waited for her to sit down, before then set down a small glass of scotch beside it. Margaret looked at the glass, sure that maybe she was seeing things. Scotch with their tea was not really unusual, but it was after all barely 10 o’clock in the morning. That prickly feeling in her scalp escalated once again.
“What’s that?” she asked stupidly.
“Scotch, dear.” Solange smiled.
50 is the new 30 it seems , and Dixie Carlton has set out to explore exactly what that means, vertically and horizontally. From endless conversations, with all kinds of people aged 50 and over, she has determined who is doing what, what the ‘new normal’ might be for many of us and delivers it in a chatty refreshing way.
She’s just your everyday ‘girl next door’ although sporting a few extra wrinkles now - and a passion for starting conversations about all the fun we’re having in our mid and later years.
One of the big things she's discovered, is that there really are two kinds of people in the world: Those who think sex is important... and everyone else.
We turn fifty and what happens? The jokes start, about what doesn’t happen anymore. Sex and dating is hard enough at any age without the added assumptions that we’re all too old for it. Especially because as it turns out, we’re far from too old… in fact many of us are enjoying the best sex and more fun in our relationships than ever.
But what does the 'official version' look like?
Hot flushing our way past the cute youngsters at the gas station, gift certificates for Botox and hair dye, false teeth, gravity defying undergarments, and always looking for the glasses on our heads, oh and flat lining libidos that need medication for getting any kind of a rise!
Whether you’re married, single, or somewhere on the journey to changing either of these states, this book will help you rethink and refresh your sexuality in your middle and later years. Because times have certainly changed how we look and feel in the best years of our lives!
Dixie shares:
• Spontaneity tips and dating tricks,
• Seduction ideas to enhance any meal,
• A basic road map to finding hidden sensual pleasures, including elusive g-spots,
• How hairdressers can identify who’s getting it and who’s probably not,
• Exactly why some of us are walking around with extra satisfied smiles.
Did you know that the Taboo Conversations can actually light up your relationship in ways you may not have even imagined yet. At the very least - this book challenges the way we talk about sex, with each other, and with ourselves. And how to identify what you really want and then how to ask for that!
When a young Scottish woman is raised traditionally but wants more from life than marriage and a brood of children, what more can she do but run away from home and discover what city life is like in the 1930s.
For Margaret McKenzie it's exciting, and leads her into the arms of Nate, and the swinging jazz scene of downtown Auckland in wartime New Zealand. Soon she learns the hard way about life as a single mother, and has to go to extraordinary lengths to protect her children from being taken away from her. But what happens when her former spoilt rich young lover returns with his wife not far behind him.
His idyllic life is not so sweet, and soon Margaret must fight once again for her children.
And why is the mysterious Thomas Morris following her from the day she arrives in Auckland as a young teen, only to turn up unexpectedly time and again to turn her life upside down.
Life for a determined single woman in the mid 20th century can be anything but straightforward it seems.
"This book takes young Margaret, fresh off the boat from Scotland to Downtown Auckland, New Zealand in the early 1930s. The small city is swinging to the sound of jazz in clubs, the beaches are tranquil, and the yearning for more is almost a tangible desire for Margaret. Falling in love is one thing, but there's more to loving than just having a great time. Finding herself pregnant and still not wanting to marry seems like a good idea at the time, until the stuffy social services team come to find out what she's up to. And who is this strange young man who keeps popping up in her life? Is he really someone she can trust or is there a lot more to his presence. As for her fancy boy... he's maybe the worst of them all - but surely she can trust him can't she?"
Too busy for dating while raising her sons alone in Australia, Penny is cautious, but drawn to the mysterious European who seems to so unsure of what to do with her.
Helena is Erik’s former lover – with a twisted jealous streak - who might have found out about these geographically challenged lovers too late. But she’ll stop at nothing to get their attention and create havoc in their lives.
From under a romantic Sorrento Moon, to the windswept wilds of Cornwall, a chilling tale that will make you wonder about those long-lost loves from your own past.

By the time Penny emerged from the water, her make-up was a mess, her hair dripping with salty water, and she felt not only emotionally spent, but had managed to find anger was simmering below her frustration and she was more than willing to bring it up to the surface to help get her through the rest of the day in Erik’s company.
Now here they stood, and she was hurt, and he was embarrassed, neither knew how to move on from this impasse of rejection, each nurturing a deep need for reassurance from the other.
“Look, I don’t know what I’ve actually done to deserve so much anger from you today, really I don’t, but would you please listen to me now? I have been unsure about how to get closer to you all week, but each time I try, I get stuck, not sure how to do this. I’ve never been very good at knowing how to make a first move, and I really don’t want to do something wrong with you.”
She softened her look a little. He took that as an encouraging sign and stepped a little closer.
“You think I’d not want to be with you?” He asked the question so quietly it was almost a whisper...
“Hi.” James was the first to acknowledge her. Brett just nodded and wiped his eyes with a tissue.
“What’s going on?” Deanna was shocked at the mess in the room, and glanced about nervously.
Brett started to cry again. Sobbing quietly. “We’re just talking about options, that’s all. Pull up a chair would you like a cup of tea or something stronger?” James reached for a glass and put it on the table in front of the bottle of Jack Daniels that was by now half empty. Both had clearly had a couple of shots already in the last half hour.
))((
What if you were married to someone you thought was dying, but then again, maybe it's all an elaborate hoax?
James married Alice when she was still young, beautiful, and very spoilt Lately he started to feel he was up against something he has no control over, and his best friend Brett is urging him to take action. Strange goings on in the night, secret liaisons, and his overwhelming desire for Kate lead him on a slippery journey towards a mental health nightmare.
Alice will do what ever it takes to keep her husband, and maintain her strange lifestyle even if that means risking her own demise...or at least her own sanity.
Brett and Deanna are stuck in the middle, unsure of what to do, but both know that something is definitely not right. Just how far will Alice go to keep her man, and who's really pulling the strings?
This story of desperation, love, and secrecy takes several surprising twists and turns, and begs the question: 'what would you do' if you were any one of the main players in this modern day romantic mystery.

Interview with the Author:
Q: What made you decide to write this book?
A: I have helped more than 40 authors to write and publish books, and over 10 years I've learned a lot about what it takes to not only write, but also to publish and then use that book to help promote their wisdom, expertise, or stories. I developed a step by step formula that makes the writing really easy and keep sharing how to write and publish a book - so decided it was time to write a book about how to write a book.
Q: What is special about your book writing skills and formula?
A: Well quite simply I love making big things easy, and my writing skills formula for non-fiction books is one that will help anyone to map out the manuscript, write the content, and have it ready for the editiing, design, and formatting phase within just a few weeks. Then this book also walks the reader through what happens next.
Q: What do you love most about helping people to write books?
A: I love that even if you are pressed for time, or have limited writing skills, I can help get the information in someone's head out to a book so that they can use their book to really market their own expertise and specialist skills better.
Q: Are you saying that being an author should be part of someone's marketing strategy?
A: Yes - because if you become an Author-ity: , you can use your opportunities to speak to groups and share your knowledge through blogs and art

Author Q&A
Q: Why did you write this book?
A: Because as a small business owner, marketing specialist and consultant, these are the things that I keep repeating to my clients. Getting the basics right and a general understanding of the role that marketing, branding, and advertising all play together to create success in any business is often overlooked and it's an expensive oversight.
Q: Do you cover anything about online and social media marketing in this book?
A: Yes, a lot really, but not How to advertise on Facebook in depth. More about getting your brand and marketing strategy sorted so that what you do either ON or OFF line is more effective. That's the key to successful marketing on ANY platform.
Q: Finally, what sort of templates and resources does the book have for readers?
A: Things to help plan, measure, and manage your advertising.
