“I will always be with you…”

Rising Democratic star Caroline Gerard hasn’t had an easy year. After losing her husband, she is raising two small children alone while trying to navigate the tricky and sometimes shallow halls on Capitol Hill. A string of nasty speeches has her scrambling to apologize to any number of candidates, including newly elected Republican Jack McIntyre. Falling in love again is the last thing on her mind.

Jack McIntyre might have a reputation as a playboy, but he has his sights set solely on his new colleague. Can he break through Caroline’s grief and capture her heart?

Told mostly in flashback and set against a chilling fascist backdrop, Dissident is a rollercoaster ride of political intrigue, passionate contemporary romance, and undying love.

For readers 18+. Ends on a cliffhanger.

So just jumping into this blind was probably not a good idea or maybe it was. The prologue was fantastic and set a great scene for the start of a book.
Then it just got really confusing for me over the following couple of chapters trying to get a hold on all the political talk, slowly starting to make sense the more I read.
It is told in the third person which I am usually not fond of but as there was so much going on at times I didn't mind much. This story was also told in past and present with it mainly being told from the past so we get the start of Jack and Carolines relationship. I found the parts told from the present to be a little confusing and I wasn't sure what was going on.
I thought that Caroline and Jack had lots of chemistry, during the book it did get a little hearts and flowers which I was not expecting from a book with such a intense prologue as this had. I enjoyed reading about Caroline and Jacks relationship my one major frustration with this was the teasing. Each time they were getting hot and heavy and it was just about to get good ;) it would STOP. If you know me at all you know I like a little bedroom action in books. I will and have read books with no sex in them and love those books but I am not expecting it to be there either. There is no love in me for the teasing that happened throughout this book.
To sum up my confusing opinion of this book, I think it was a well laid out start to what looks like an intense drama series. I enjoy a mature drama and this seemed to be heading in the right direction. This book had a fantastic start, slow middle and ended the way it started.

I am going to attempt the next one when I am in the right mood, not sure I can handle more of the political talk it seemed to really erk me. I may have to add politics to my trigger list with religion.

I received free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

This story commenced with Caroline and Jack running for their lives and I was instantly pulled in. Life in America is changing dramatically under President Santos (is our author a West Wing fan?) and California has broken away from the USA.

Soon after beginning the story takes us back 5 years to when Caroline meets Jack. I was initially annoyed with this. I wanted to know what was going on now. Ultimately the story switches between the past where we experience Caroline and Jack falling in love and the present where Caroline is unconscious and the doctors trying to keep her out of the hands of the military.

The romance between Caroline and Jack is wonderful and a great example of a slowly built relationship. The author shows us so much of them and their lives and insecurities. Lots of fabulous, honest conversations. I loved reading about a mature relationship, characters with intelligence, lives and baggage.

The mix of political drama, danger and romance is perfect and I eagerly await the next instalment of The Bellator Saga so I can find out what is going to happen next.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, genre crossing book 21 March 2015

This is a well crafted, genre crossing book. It has political, erotic, and dystopian themes. I've read a lot of dystopian books lately and the protagonists are usually adolescents. I really liked that in this book the main characters are adults. The book is well written, moving smoothly between past and the (near) future where the American government appears to be crumbling. I look forward to reading the next book in the series and especially want to know more about the new American society .

5.0 out of 5 stars Political mayhem, heroes and monsters, lovers and fighters 5 gold stars 19 July 2015

Wow. I read the blurb and I can honestly say that it does NOT do justice to the story. It is soooo much more than Caroline’s unconscious recovery in a VA hospital.

The story starts off on the night it all went to hell. Two people are running for their lives. At the time, I didn’t know them but I felt the fear, the adrenaline rush through my blood, I felt the pain, the agony course through my body. When they stopped and did what they had to do, my heart was ripped into pieces. I felt silent tears falling only to fade away after sometime. The prologue was brutal and heart-wrenchingly breathtaking.

To say I am enamored with Cecilia’s writing would be an understatement. I’ve always been a sucker for romance and suspense and this one had both in spades. After the heart in your throat start, we flashback to five years ago when we meet the Caroline and Jack. They did not have a great beginning. When they first meet Caroline is recovering from a great loss and in her struggle does to survive the loss, she makes an ass of herself. Being the person that she is, she endeavors to silently mend what she has broken without of course Jack knowing. I did cringe at the conversation between them and I could not blame Jack at all. Sigh. Jack! What can I say about him, do you know the proverb still water runs deep, I think it was made for Jack. That man is not what he seems at all. Yes he was a douche before but there were reasons. While their friendship blossoms, he struggles to accept his past so that he can forge his future.

While this is happening, I timehop to the present time with my heart trying to attempt to make an escape from my body. The brutal truth of the current situation, the insanity of it all, makes me wanna hug my teddy and think of rainbows and care bears. I want my flashback, I don’t like the current world. Sigh. Alas I had to put my big girl undies and fight the cringe-worthy viciousness. I felt my heart break, my body spasm. The patient being kept safe in the hospital has been through so much. How she survived what she did was beyond comprehension? The world is indeed full of crazy monsters who would stop at nothing to gain more power and money.

Off to my happy flashback moments, the loved who Caroline is as a person. She’s isn’t your typical person of power. And if you knew me you would know how much I totally hate the subject but Cecilia made me love the whole topic. There’s goodness out there, it’s not really all about domination. I loved Mo and Feef, their interaction with Caroline, Bob and Chrissy, the staffs who work for Caro and Jack. To say he’s swoon-worthy would be an understatement. A lot of people doubts his sincerity and I don’t blame them considering his past and the thing he does unknowingly being the villain in his own happy ever after. He’s suave, he’s sexy and he’s damn hot for Caro, what more does a girl want but a man who is totally and irrevocably into her. But Caro is scared of a happy future because of what she’s lost in the past. Would she believe Jack when he says he wants a future with her? Or will Jack unknowingly destroy their happiness? Or will the powers that be who think they can oppress, destroy good people so that they can rule the world?

I really did not expect to be swept away in the tide of romance and intrigue as much as I did. And I cannot wait to dive into book 2 when it is out. This was brutal yet charming, sweet yet sinister in its content. Wanna know more about Caro and Jack, all you have to do is 1-click it to find out.

Conscience here is come for you, book 2 in the series that is the Bellator Saga.

5.0 out of 5 stars Phenomenal 25 August 2015

This debut book by Cecilia London is the phenomenal start to a new series. It gave me just what I was looking for....something DIFFERENT. It is a romance. A romance between Caroline and Jack. However, it is so much more....mystery and intrigue.

Caroline is a young woman in the political arena who has suffered a tragedy. At the point we are introduced to her, she is trying her best to live life. Jack is a political playboy. Jack and Caroline feed a budding romance. Both of these characters are people that I found to be very enjoyable. While they are romancing, a scene of intrigue is being built. It is quite amazing how Cecilia London builds this story.

As readers, we are given the end of the story in the prologue. We are led into the maze of the past to figure out how the story will end. I'm not sure which component I loved more....the mystery/suspense or the romance. I do know for sure...I WANT MORE.

Thank you, Cecilia London, for an amazing read.

5.0 out of 5 stars This was a compelling and great start to a new and exciting saga 5 July 2015

This was a compelling and great start to a new and exciting saga. Just from reading the prologue, I was instantly addicted. I was intrigued, and I couldn’t wait to find out more. I literally couldn’t put the book down. Cecilia has literally blown me away with this book. Her writing skills are so intelligent and she really knows how to keep you pulled in. I wasn’t quite sure how I would like it at first, seeing as it was going to have politics involved, but I loved reading about it. It wasn’t boring at all. Some of the things said and about the way she explained it, were actually impressive and I found myself wanting to know more and more.
I really liked how the storyline was laid out. You get bits and pieces of what is going on, but then you get what happened in the past. I felt that gave the story more and we get to see how the characters, Caroline and Jack met. We get to know them and see them grow together. I really loved both of these characters. They both were very intelligent and you could tell Cecilia did her homework on the topic.
Overall, this book was beyond amazing. I highly recommend reading this. I couldn’t stop once I started and I honestly don’t know if I can wait until the next book comes out! There is suspense and romance, plus all around great and thrilling read! Amazing job Cecilia! Cannot wait for the next one!

5.0 out of 5 stars What an Amazing Start!! 7 December 2015
By Deanna PinkLady - Published on

A story of intellect, mystery, political savviness and very sensual and sexy undertones!! I must say, I was a little hesitant to read because I had some preconceived notions about the story. Well- with the push of some friends, I read and was completely overwhelmed and absorbed into an amazing and epic storyline.

Representative Caroline Gerard is a mother, a widower; she is smart, sassy, determined and incredibly strong. Representative Jack McIntyre is smart, good looking, and a playboy. But during his campaign, he was disparaged by Caroline in his congressional race. But that disparaging lead to a meeting between the two. Caroline needed to right the wrong and so THEIR story began....

Besides this being a love story, it's a story of political intrigue, one that sucks you in and doesn't let you go. It grabs you with a prologue that leaves you breathless and then proceeds to take you on a journey of Past and Present. It flows effortlessly, beautifully and epically. the question!!! Why did this happen and Why would it happen. Their story enfolds and I couldn't put it down. It was magically told, a story that kept you wanting to know more and more and more.

I loved the writing, I loved the characters, I loved the banter....I loved it all!! The writing is intelligent, intriguing and sensual. It's a story that could easily take place now. The political impact of the story will keep you mesmerized and wanting to know more. Definitely a fantastic series start!!
