Tried to like this second in the series book but found it much less readable than the first Novel The Elfin Ship. The first novel I consider a delightful classic that I have re-read many times. The Disappearing Dwarf I still have not been able to finish reading after some time. The characters have no dimension in it unlike the first book.
After many years and readings, I had to replace my paperback version. So I was delighted to see this as an ebook. This is a classic fantasy that ranks at the top along with Tolkein, Carroll, Lewis, and all the other great fabulists. Deceptively simple and enjoyable with a gentle, wry humor that laughs at all too common foibles. One more round with the proofreader would be nice though. There's just enough typos in the ebook version to throw off easy reading.
Jonathon Bing, the Master Cheeser is at it again. Making cheese is important business but so is saving the world. Full of adventure, mystery, and humor, this sequal to the "Elfin Ship" is a must. You think of your children and future children when you read this. It can be hard enough to find, that I bought extra copies of the 2 books to save for my son at 5 years old. He will thank me for them someday. This book has true flavor and charm, very unlike the factory mass made fantasy that is available now. This book had me grinning from ear to ear while reading it.
This book is the sequel to the 'Elfin Ship'. It has the Same bunch of zany and lovable characters as the first book, 'The Elfin Ship', plus a bunch more new characters who are just as zany and crazy. Very enjoyable to continue the adventures of Mr. Bing Cheeser, Dooley and company.
The Elfin Ship and The Disappearing Dwarf have been two of my all time favorite novels for as far back as I can remember. There are very few books that had me in stitches laughing myself stupid, and this one and The Elfin Ship are at the top of the list. The world Blaylock created, the characters, the insane situations and conversations paint a picture of a place I'd dearly love to inhabit. I re-read both novels every few years, and being able to get them both on Kindle has been wonderful, now I no longer have to worry about tattered pages, or losing them ever again.
