'Different This Time' by Tess McCallum was a nicely written second-chance-outback-romance, with a little mystery thrown in. Set in the Kimberleys, I thought Tess' descriptions of this ruggedly beautiful area was a standout.
MC, Jenny, was emotionally damaged by the two most important males in her life - her dad, who withdrew his love after her mother ran off and her ex boyfriend, Scott, who broke her heart. A decade on and Jenny had tasted success in her own right. On her return home to settle her father's deceased estate (a cattle station called Twin Rock) she came across Scott when she became stranded. Both Jenny and Scott were likable and sympathetic characters and the chemistry between them was strong. My only criticism of the book was regarding some of Jenny's actions - I completely understood her insecurities, but given her long absence and success, she seemed to lack an expected level of maturity and sophistication.
Nonetheless, 'DTT' was a light and entertaining narrative.
Product Description
Ten years after fleeing her outback home, international model Jenny Hynes was back to settle her father’s estate and close the book on their fractured relationship. She had no intention of sticking around any longer than absolutely necessary and certainly no intention of rekindling her relationship with the man who had shattered her tender, eighteen year old heart. If only he didn’t still make her body sizzle with desire…
The moment Scott Armstrong set eyes on Jenny Hynes again, he was determined to win her back. But a decade is a long time and she was no longer the shy, impressionable girl who had won his heart. The new Jenny was confident, worldly and very, very guarded. It would take all his patience, persistence and a healthy dose of chemistry to convince her they were meant to be together.
