5.0 out of 5 stars A lively, multi-period tale 8 September 2016
By Diane Scott Lewis - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Maggi Anderson knows how to write a lively tale. This story moves from modern times to Victorian. Astrid is an actress playing the part of a painter's model who lived in nineteenth century England. Gina is the Victorian miss who poses for her beloved step-father. Both women have relationship issues, and Gina must struggle to survive after a tragedy.
It's a light, breezy read with serious undertones on the vulnerability of women, especially the women with limited rights and opportunities in the past. The historical details are well-researched.
3.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing Story - 3.5 stars 19 July 2016

Format: Kindle Edition
I was really keen to read this book as it has an intriguing storyline. It's free on KU and I like this author. I'm conflicted about my review though. Basically we have 2 romances, one in the late 19th century and one in the present day. We randomly go back and forth between the two periods. The author has chosen to move both stories along faster by skipping time when coming back to each period. In the past we have a beautiful Italian artist's model, Gina, and an Irish gentleman, Blair. Blair sees a painting of Gina knows he has to have her, he immediately assumes she's a member of the demi-monde and wants to make her his mistress. In reality, Gina is the step-daughter of the artist and her mother made her swear never to become a mistress but rather look for someone to fall in love with and marry.

In the present day, French actress, Astrid, meets Irish actor, Dylan, while making a movie of Gina's diaries. Dylan has the reputation of bedding all his co-stars and Astrid is in a long term relationship with an older man. There is chemistry between the two actors but Astrid is afraid of Dylan's reputation.

Honestly the story is interesting but there are moments where the writing doesn't live up to the story. I also had one or two my own personal niggles come up. In both stories the male characters sleep with other women once they've met the female characters. I particularly didn't like it in the current day story because of how the h felt about the H's reputation.

I think it's a book worth reading but it isn't perfect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Time Slip Novel 30 September 2016
By Rosemary Morris - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
In Diary of a Painted Lady, an intriguing time slip novel, Andersen skilfully weaves her characters’ past and present lives.

Present day Paris. Astrid le Clair refuses to marry Philippe her partner for 5 years. She is serious about furthering her career as an actress, and travels from France to England, where she hopes to make her name in the film, Painted Lady, adapted from a diary kept by Giovanna, step-daughter of renowned pre-Raphaelite artist, Milo Rosso.

Ivor Heath, England. Dylan prepares to take the male lead in Painted Lady. When he meets his co-star he is fascinated by her.

London, 1890. Blair Delaney attends an auction. He is struck by the beauty of Milo Rosso’s painting of Aphrodite. He buys it with the intention of finding the model. When he does, she exceeds his expectations.

Throughout the beautifully written novel, Andersen is in complete control of her characters. She swept me into scenes that tempted me to read on. I am sure her many fans and new readers will enjoy Diary of a Painted Lady
