Product Description

Dimitri Tasarov has never had a choice in what he was. From infancy, he had been raised with the knowledge that he was a monster, an unlovable creature without a soul, until a single act of kindness threw his entire world into a tailspin.

Ava Emerson had always led a reluctantly sheltered existence. Friendship was a luxury that came with questions she couldn’t afford to answer.

They were an unlikely pair. He lived behind his mask and his roses, and she lived behind her secrets, yet they shared a bond that could get them killed if anyone ever found out.

Times were changing. The city was in turmoil. The weak were unprotected and someone needed to make a stand. But Dimitri wasn’t the only one with eyes on the north, or Ava, and they will stop at nothing to claim them both.

Can Dimitri keep Ava safe, or will the devil fall?

This book is adult and intended for a mature audience.
This is part of an Interconnected Standalone. It's not necessary to read them in order.

The Devil’s Beauty is a spectacularly breathtaking and incredibly powerful journey that will strip your soul bare and then clothe it in pure love and boundless hope. This is a stunning story of fighting for and discovering a Heaven on Earth of unconditional acceptance, fierce hope, and passionate love. Life can be beyond cruel, but it can also give us exactly what we need even if it’s not in the form we want. We just need to look past the darkness around us and see the rays of light that are desperately trying to penetrate our dark prison. Don’t shut your eyes to the good even in the midst of the darkest of night that this life can bring. Keep your heart open and move forward with the power of love and hope.

Ava’s world changed forever the day she met her step-father John Paul. He loved her with an unrelenting and fierce love when she craved it more than anything. He turned her world upside down and showed her what a parent was supposed to be. She loved him more the life itself, but John Paul has many secrets. Secrets that could turn her life upside down and inside out. Can the power that John Paul wields be able to protect his precious Ava before one of his secrets steals more than he is prepared to give up?

I couldn’t get over just how remarkable the characters in this story are. Each and every one of them have such a huge depth and breathe to them. They are utterly fascinating and wondrously extraordinary. I lost my heart to Dimitri and Ava, and I don’t want it back. Their journey was stunning and brilliant! This story is one that will haunt you long after it is over. You won’t want it to end, and I can’t wait to read more from these absolutely enthralling characters.

This is the first book I read by Airicka Phoenix, and I am completely blown away.

THIS WAS AMAZING. So much went on in the book, but it was a great build up to the ultimate ending. At times, I didn't even realize what was happening until the final pieces fell together, and then I sorta just sat there like... that just happened. It blew my mind.

Our MCs have known each other for most of their lives, but it comes in remembrances and recollections as they continue to do their own story in the present. I think one of the best things about this was how there were so many stories linking all together to make up one big masterpiece for me. It kept me in suspense. I love Phoenix's writing and although it's been a while since I've read her books, I'm definitely going to start up again. She managed to meld so many things together and make it work: crime/gang life, romance, sexy times, comedy and even tragedy. If I could give this a higher rating, I would.

Definitely not a book to treat like a fast read, it's got a whole lot of entertainment that'll make you laugh out loud and cry (at least it did for me).

2.0 out of 5 stars Decent idea marred by weak writing 1 December 2016
By Mady Rivas - Published on Amazon.com

The concept behind this book was good, so I kept reading it despite that fact that many times I wanted to DNF. The story would show promise, and then tank. A frustrating read. This is my first time reading this author, and I am struggling with whether I would read more. Her writing style is strange for the romance genre - I actually was wondering if English was her first language. It took me a while to realize this book was set in Canada - probably French speaking Canada - so maybe not. She kept calling elevators metal boxes, then lifts, once in a while an elevator. This inability to pick a vocabulary took me out of the story repeatedly. It was also littered with inappropriate use of parts of speech - nouns used as adjectives, adjectives as nouns, etc. And the gross over use of metaphors, adjectives and adverbs - to such an extent it felt like "purple prose". Fine literature, this is not.

If you brush that aside, this was a comic book romance. While the sex was explicit, there wasn't much of it, and when it was introduced, it went on for way too long given how unimaginative it was. The comic book feel was clearly intentional, since the Batman/Alfred comparison was put directly into the text by the author. And that's not a bad place for a book to be - hey, I watch Arrow - but the action side of the story was fairly weakly constructed. The mafia underworld was hard to understand (maybe because I did not read the first book because the title says its a standalone). Motivations were weak. I felt really bad for Dimitri when John Paul finally laid his cards on the table - it completely destroyed his credibility as a character.

Which now brings me to the egregious failings of this book. HUGE continuity issues on just about everything. Ava was taken near her birthday, which is in August, but she is very cold as she is shipped to Puerto Rico, in an enclosed container with no air and 50 other women who have no room. Yup sure. I could go on, but that would not be helpful.

Was it worth $.99 - I've read better $.99 reads.

This is the first book I read by Airicka Phoenix, and I am completely blown away. She stole my heart irrevocably, and I willingly give her my reading devotion as well. She is a true master at creating such a vividly heart-wrenching world that will turn your life upside down. You won’t be able to look at anything the same way ever again. You will see so much more, feel even the slightest of emotions, and have a much more sensitive view of our world. You don’t want to miss out on this wonderful masterpiece!

I think one of the best things about this was how there were so many stories linking all together to make up one big masterpiece for me. It kept me in suspense. I enjoyed the characters and the different things they brought to the table, particularly Ava's best friend, Robby. Despite not always being in the picture, his character went through some major transformations, and I absolutely love it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sexy Bad Boy Hero 15 October 2016

Dimitri grew up without his father and his mother was the leader of one quadrant of the Canadian city's crime syndicate. Ava grew up with a mother who did not love her and a loving stepfather who led another of the quadrants. From the time Ava was ten, they became friends and when she turned 18 they became secret lovers. Secret, because her father and his mother would never approve. This is the story of how they overcame insurmountable obstacles, how they fought for their love. The story has plenty of suspense, likable strong characters, a real villain and some steamy sex. I marked it down because the editing was mediocre.

So I started with the Irish, moved to a ship and the Italians, switched to the Russians....this series is amazing. Start with transcending darkness.....

So much happens in this. It's a second chance romance and it takes awhile to get all the backstory. My advice to you is don't give up. When all seems hopeless and frustrating all of a sudden the author sneaks in memories that keep the couple moving forward. I did get a bit of whiplash. The h is in trouble ALOT in this story. But some of the scenes at the cabin and on the road are heart pounding!

I need more! Pair up Marcus and Theresa for some forbidden love. Give Penny to Julian, keep Frank around! It was awesome seeing him back in the North with Dimitri. I really hope she continues with this series of books. Well written, great supporting characters, recommend.
