I enjoyed this story. I loved Xander. The plot was good and kept me wanting to read right up to the end.
The story is written in first person, of which I am not a fan. It's told from the alternating viewpoints of Laura and Xander, but each time the pov changes, the current character goes back and relives what we have just read from the other character's pov, including dialogue. Sooo much repetition and so very annoying. This could have been handled much better. It was also a little difficult to keep track of from whose point of view we are reading. The first half of the book was the worst; it did improve a bit in the second half. I feel the story would have been much better if narrated in third person.
Lydia Dawson has recently broken up with her her fiancé a person that was really chosen for her by her overbearing mother . The reason for the breakup is simply he felt she was spending too much time on building her business and not a lot of time on him which Lydia had to agree was a fare comment As she admitted he would be more suited to someone like her mother who’s just divorced husband no3 ,what hurt Lydia was that he went off with her friend, now she is in Las Vegas at a cousins bachelorette party . Needing to get away from the party she finds herself sitting in a bar ,when a handsome stranger called Alexander / Zander Maclean sits next to her . Zander is on leave from the military and instantly he feels a very close bond with Lydia , and it’s not long before they decide to get out on to the strip for some fun . Lydia wakes up next morning next to Zander and soon realises that they’ve done something very reckless and spontaneous last night and have the rings and marriage certificate to prove it . Although Zander is very happy with the situation as he’s totally in love with her ,Lydia is absolutely distraught and demands an annulment . Heartbroken by Lydia’s reaction he reluctantly agrees to the annulment and as he’s about to back for a tour of duty he gives her his brothers address where she can send the papers for signing . There are problems looming on the horizon when two years on Zander has left the military and has taken a job with a security firm in Dallas and of course that’s where Lydia is so he’s already thinking about looking her up . Although they think they’re divorced they discover there was a problem with the divorce papers not being signed properly, also Lydia came home from Vegas with a little reminder of her night of passion . It’s a shock all round that they’re still married more to the point how will Zander react when he finds out he’s a Daddy to the gorgeous Alexia ? With Lydia constantly at the beck and call of her awful self obsessed mother who’s constantly trying to set her up with equally horrendous men and if that’s not enough , she’s also got a viper in her circle who wishes her and Alexia harm . It all leads to a heart stopping moment with the best outcome for everyone
totally lost the plot in the last quarter ...an enjoyable first half but then we had an amber alert when a child was snatched and her childminder was found injured. an ex special forces father and a loving mama reactions really did not gel with the storyline..the unloving granny had a birthday party for her grandchild? and got engaged at the party? the flow of the story just read wrong although there was a hea. very confused and lacking the connection among quentin security that would hint at a fabulous series to come.
This book was full of meaningless information that didn't progress the story - backgrounds for every passing individual in the book, so that you find yourself skipping pages right from the start. Good indication that this isn't a very good author.
By the sound of the leading man, you'd think he'd had a full-blown relationship over several years, instead of a couple drunken hours. So unrealistic.
As I read I found myself going into a 'bored out of my mind' coma and wondering when the story would actually start. I gave up long before I got to the end of the book, just a full on waste of time.
Perfect instalust beginning, then, in a crescendo of angry denial and refusal to communicate, the basic story hangs on a thread. Good plot, but a bit of forcing along the storyline to keep two virtual strangers continuously angry with each other for over half the book. Well-played crisis situation, heartthrob HEA finale.
This has to be the slowest book I've ever read! I had to skim several pages at a time throughout the book just to get through it! It was extremely boring, but I hate not finishing a book. So I forced myself to do it. The was to much inner dialog to get through. The female character was to insecure, and actually rude at times to her employees. I didn't like how she treated the male character at all! He was so sweet to her, especially after he found out about their baby. She was never going to tell him about her. If it had been for the divorce papers not being signed, he never would have known. That's just ridiculous! Of That's not mentioned in the book. I hated her attitude of being superior to him because she was the mother to their baby. No he wasn't perfect, but he tried really hard to be for her!
What to say about a book that is professionally written, that has a reasonable plot but not enough of it to justify fifty percent of the pages ? Soooo sloooow. The padding and endless internal dialogue are so skim worthy. My life is too short to spend on another in this series.
I would like to think that it is a combination! I have to make a confession! For the most part of my life I have lived with a "Jolene" for a parent! I have not ever had a family without a lot of strife, so I can relate to Liddy, I don't know how Xander's mother felt when he joined the military. I do know that after 32 years of marriage I married the wrong person! I have been with him for 35 years, a son who joined the military before he graduated from high school. I am a grandmother to a grandson who joined the Marines. I am proud of the men and women who serve our country and I do always pray for their safety. I love Alxeia who brings back memories of my kids as they made tracks through their lives! This is a story of laughter, hope, smiles, tears, stupid mistakes we as humans make in our lives. The question is this: are man or woman enough to own up to you part of the moment you screwed up? I loved it! I think it is "Family drama and politics"!
