To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
My Xfinity account requires an Arris cable modem. This modem has 2 USB ports that I thought I could connect with an external drive holding family pictures and videos the same way used with WD modem on the earlier cable service. As it turned out both USB ports are permanently disabled. The best go around this issue turned up to be Silex DS-510 device server with the Ethernet port connection to the Arris modem. I used USB cable to connect Silex with an external USB drive. I downloaded Device Server Setup for Windows file to set all up. Important tip - make sure that you turn on network discovery and file sharing at Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings. The PDF software installation manual at Silex site is very good, and after software installation was finished the drive was discovered immediately. I installed only the Computer configuration part on other computer and the drive came up, but I had to disconnect drive access on the first computer. The external drive can be accessed only from one PC at the time.
Not compatible with Mac OS 11. I wish they had said this in the product info. I wouldn't have bought one, spent an hour rewiring my printer cabinet and then finally figured out its not compatible after trying to install the software.
Silex, be honest about your product in your product details. Customers shouldn't have to dig through all the product Q&A to discover a major incompatibility like... ALL NEW MACs! You are wasting your customers' time.
"Mojave 10.14 OS and earlier" is not good enough. People are used to installing printer drivers for older versions that mostly still work. You need to be explicit.
I plugged this into the network switch to which my computer is connected. I installed the software, but it couldn't find the device. I then checked my router, and it was not showing the device on the network. I then checked the switch, and sure enough, no lights for the port to which this device was connected. I tried another network cable, but still no connection. I've initiated a return/exchange - we'll see if the next one works.
