I liked the sexual fluidity aspect of the story. It’s illuminating, inspiring, open & fair. I enjoyed the first 30-40% of the book as these two friends began one relationship & it morphed into something unexpected & beautiful. But then it all stared to go downhill for me. I’m a real fan of the MM genre & have read a lot of it. The dialogue just seemed unlikely & unbelievable. I couldn’t help rolling my eyes & saying to myself ‘yeah, right?’ Is that how the dialogue would really go? I’m not convinced. It seemed a bit kitchy & uugggh-too much of the sickly sweet at times. However as I said earlier the content about sexual fluidity & how they explored that, was great. Just wasn’t packaged well for me generally

WOW!!!!! You would not believe after reading DEVIATE that this is Mia Monroe’s first book... she seems like a well seasoned Author with years of experience. I absolutely loved this story, it is up there on my favourite M/M book list.
It starts out as two long time male close friends , Jason is a billionaire with everything money can buy and Quinn is a struggling artist who is finding it difficult to make ends meet. Both men are straight but at the current point in their lives are not wanting to date or settle down.
Insert a marriage proposal of convenience that is issued to Quinn to help Jason out for tax reasons and we are taken on such a beautiful journey of love, friendship, self discovery and hope . This story shows the face of pure unconditional , soul mate, everlasting love doesn’t have to conform to a specific gender norm, it’s how one heart, soul, desire, and true connection speaks to another regardless of gender, race or age.
I absolutely loved everything about this story , it gave me all the FEELS... I loved the slow burn , that navigation of finding ones true self, the push and pull aspect until you finally have to face yourself and ask: “What is it I really NEED in life to make me the happiest ME? Who knows me better than anybody else flaws and all and still loves me for me, won’t judge me, can’t wait to come home and see me , gives me butterflies just by a look or touch, relax with me, comfort me, go to batt for me, take the reins when sometimes life gets too hard and will help achieve all life goals just by being in my corner and supporting me”.... THAT person just might be who you least expect....
That person you have been searching for your whole life... could be staring you in the face .
Loved this so much. Congratulations Mia on a truly beautiful story . It deserves the ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What do you get when two childhood straight friends help each other out of a jam by entering into a friends with benefits arrangement, where the benefit is financial?? Close proximity to really see what that friend is like in a whole new light warts and all, as well as really acknowledging their deep abiding loyalty, absolute unconditional friendship, sexiness, and a wiliness to be open to change while reflecting on one's own sexual evolution.
This book was a delight to read. The evolving relation between seemingly heterosexual childhood friends, Quinn and Jason was organic and a delight to watch unfold. While this was a GFY romance, it actually felt like so much more, it was that well written. Everything from their tentative exploration of their explosive chemistry which really kerboomed once they were living together and proximate to each other for long periods of time, felt spot on. It was an absolute shame the book ended it was that good. I didn't even know Mia Monroe wrote m/m, but can I say she should keep doing so, she had a deft hand which was perfect for this story, even the sexy-times were terrific and felt real and exactly right (rather than gratuitous) for the two men who were travelling towards their HEA, even if they didnt know it at the time. So good.
Absolutely high recommended reading.

Deviate by Mia Monroe is a beautiful love story. The idea of loving a person not restricted by their gender is explored and developed perfectly with Deviate. This twist on the traditional friends to lovers genre intrigued me from the start.
Quinn and Jason struggle through their emotions and preconceived ideas about life and love. Their chemistry builds over the course of the book and I felt the emotional tension escalate as though I was there with them. I found myself thinking about Jason's hesitation and bravery and Quinn's patience during the course of my day. This couple became like friends to me, they were so well written.
The sex scenes in Deviate are HOT AND STEAMY! Nothing was held back or censored. There was just the right amount sex to emotion ratio in Deviate, nothing was over the top or redundant. I often find the erotic aspect of M/M stories takes over from the romance and drama, but this was not the case with Deviate.
Mia Monroe captured my heart with this pair, I hope we see more of them in future books from the Love in the City series.

I read the other series (Marry me etc) and had high hopes for this book. But it was kind of painful. The dialogue was too much and unrealistic. And there was quite a bit of women hating at the beginning. It just didn’t flow and the characters weren’t all that likeable. However if you’ve come here first, don’t be deterred. Go and check out her other books because they are awesome!

A Fantastic Debut

This is the first book for Mia and what a book it is. It's storyline, one of friends to lovers, is one you hear of quite a lot but interestingly Mia has turned this one around and made the 2 lead characters straight men, and boy does it work.
As you embark on their journey with them. You feel everything. Jason's doubts and Quinn's insecurities and their eventual love as they navigate their "married life". Mia draws you in and before long you find yourself rooting for them and wanting the marriage to succeed and for them.to be happy.
I honestly can't give this book enough stars. It needs more. For a first book Mia knocked ot out of the park. I will definitely be reading more from her. Well done Mia ❤

WOW! What a debut this was! I wasn’t expecting to find what I found here and that is a touching story watching two pretty much best friends start a marriage of convenience that turns into something so much more.
This book deals with Jason and Quinn’s love story. Quinn, while not labelling himself, is very comfortable and fluid in his sexuality and the potential for exploration. Jason is very much the “I’m straight why are you turning me on?” Person in this relationship but what I thought was so beautiful is that Mia Monroe never lets you forgot that. You see the struggle in Jason’s mind not to stop what he’s feeling but to understand. You see that he wants to be open and explore what he’s feeling and you can feel that palpable relief when he knows Quinn wants to explore their connection too.
This was a great story - pick it up today and watch these two realize they’ve got what they couldn’t dare hope to find with anyone else - love built on the strongest foundation.

To be clear, this book is about one straight character, and his sexually fluid friend who has had sex with another man wherein he served as both a top and bottom. ---- In case that's not clear enough, the friend has had sex with a man before, and that man wasn't Jason.
I'm making this clear because after reading the synopsis, as well as the author's note about the inspiration for the book, it may seem as though you're purchasing a book about 2 straight friends, who, through the power of love, engage in a sexual relationship. Let me disabuse you of that notion.
I'm more than slightly pissed bc what I wound up buying wasn't what I thought I'd be purchasing. Had the author's statement been accurate, I wouldn't have a problem with the way the story unfolded. I honestly dislike being told one thing, then experiencing another. Some might say, 'what's the big deal?' And my response would be: "my money," particularly as my purchase is nonrefundable.
I would urge authors, especially new authors, to be as truthful as possible when writing or approving the synopsis of their books. It saves a lot of time and dissatisfaction.
I love the MM genre and there isn't a theme/trope within this genre I haven't read; therefore, when I saw the synopsis of this book, I was very excited about the possibility of a two-way gay for you story. Apparently, this infrequently used trope may have been too daring, or too lacking in ingenuity for the author, so she decided to dazzle us with the ( very clever, and neeeeeeveeeeerrrrr before used) 'secret gay experience from the past' bit of brilliance. God....if only I could go back in time and actually flush my money down the toilet instead.....pretty sure I'd be much happier right now.
Suffice it to say, I like authors on whom I can depend as I am investing my money; i.e.: Lucy Lennox ' s new book will be available to me in about 2 hours. Thank God.

Omg is this really Mia Monroe’s debut? I loved it and read it in two sittings! I can’t remember the last time I stayed up late to finish reading a book. It was so good and the sexual tension between Jason & Quinn was off the charts! So happy I took a chance on this new author. I can’t wait for the next standalone book in the series!
