Ryan:

I am a son,
A friend,
A brother,
A psychopath.

After eighteen years of being in a psych ward, I've been released into the world. Things have changed. Blake is married to Melody and now a father to my new fixation, Cereus; my beautiful niece who knows nothing of my existence.

When consequences of my past sins begin playing tricks on me, old cravings demand to be satisfied. There is no cure for my kind of sickness.

I am void of everything but obsession.
I can’t love,
I can’t feel,
I am Desolate.

Finally we get Ryans story!!! Eighteen years after the events that happened in Empathy, we meet back up with Ryan and his family. Been sent to stay in a Psych hospital for nearly two decades, you would think it would change a man. That’s not the case with Ryan. Told starting from 8 months previous, it begins with Ryan still locked up and Blake living a ‘normal’ life with Melody. He’s working as a police captain, happily married and still loved up, got a teenage daughter Cereus and his life is good…until he returns a phone call and finds out that his brothers been released. So, of course, he keeps quiet and doesn’t tell Melody and decides he’ll keep an eye on Ryan.
Now I’m going to say here if you’re expecting Ryan to find redemption, a soul, some morals or feelings, whatever, you’re in for a disappointed.
After convincing his doctor that he’s cured, he gets released into the community. He’s already got his eye on Cereus and he’s determined to get closer to her.
(Just a little side note: this is not a sexual interest, it’s his niece, it is not creepy or incesty at all).
I really don’t want to go into the story, it’ll spoil it, I will say this book continued to surprise me. It had the things I’ve come to expect from Ker, hot sex, a brilliant story and likable characters along with a (pretty big) sprinkle of darkness, what I didn’t expect was Ryan. I am so happy Ker Dukey kept with Ryan’s character from the start of the first book all the way through this one. He is one sick little puppy. He’s got to be one of my all time favourite characters. He is so complex, he’s like an onion, layers on layers of craziness and insanity, and the worse thing was I could actually empathise with/understand him. He reads peoples weaknesses and pounces, getting what he wants from them.

I was lucky enough to have been given an Arc of Desolate by Ker for an honest review. 5 Stars are not enough this book deserves more.

Desolate is outstanding the second book in this fantastic series and what a brilliant follow on book.

Desolate starts off 18 Years on from where Empathy finished, Chapter one is hot with the lovely Blake & Melody and we are introduced to Cereus and the picture of how their life is now.

Ryan ~ The amazing, dark twisted man is released and his first mission is to meet and find Cereus his adorable niece. Of course along the way we see Ryan's dark side at it's best no holding back on the details from Ker which I really love about this author. Although Ryan will always have a blood thirsty need for danger, cause harm and a need for twisted sexual acts, we do see another side to Ryan, albeit very small, the saying blood is thicker than water rings true.

Desolate was outstanding and for me, is the best I have read from Ker to date.

Look forward to more from Ker Dukey

★★★★★Blew away all my expectations!!! Raw Dark Intense Edgy AMAZING!
Empathy was one of my favorite reads of 2014, and I have been waiting on pins and needles for the Desolate the follow-up book. I can’t fully express how unbelievably fantastic this book is. I LOVE IT!! Just WOW!!!
So beautifully written, I was able to envision every little detail and feel like I was in the story along with these complex characters. I Love how Ker Dukey brought Ryan to life in Desolate and kept to his true character. There were times while reading Desolate where I was a little disturbed by Ryan but at the same time felt myself caring for his well-being. He’s the Ultimate Anti-Hero.
As usual when I read anything by Ker Dukey I couldn't put it down until I knew what was going to happen next. And although this is not a ROMANCE there are some tender moments and some sexy scenes. 5 ★★★★★ BEAMING Stars for Desolate & Ker Dukey. Amazing story!

Then Ryan gets released from Psych hospital where he was put 18 years earlier everyone believes he is a changed man and now believe he can lead a normal life But as we know Ryan he can manipulate to make them think that he is this changed man... But he knows about Cereus .... what happens well you will have to read it to find out but it is filled with twists and turns such a great book from start to finish. if you loved Empathy YOU DO NOT WONT TO MISS READING rYANS BOOK

It picks up right were we left off in empathy. 18 years later and we get more of Ryan and see Blake and Mels baby, Cereus all grown up. Like empathy it's hard to put into words how amazing this book was to the plot and the writing from Ker. I loved every minute of it, and all I can say is get ready for another wicked and twisted ride that will leave your heart pounding, mouth panting, mind turning and all your emotions on high alert. I'm so happy that we get more of Ryan! His the Villain I tried not to love but was impossible, especially after the end of this book. He is beautifully twisted and wicked and has a mind that I could love to live in and break down! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!
