This is the first time I have blamed an author for overburdening a story.
Though I have to be honest and say I enjoyed this, there was just way too much crammed into too short a book.
Not going to give spoilers but we cover so many sub plots and things happening that are not needed, it becomes plain silly.
A real pity as I liked and felt sorry for Sierra and found her resilient.
And though Austin was a complete twit on a couple of occasions, he was coping with everything the author had thrown at him.

The was a fun, but also heartfelt romance between Austin and Sierra. They had an instant connection and it seemed kismet that both were wanting a D/s relationship but only in the bedroom. But Sierra is running from a horrible past, one that keeps surfacing to cause trouble. A very unexpected surprise lands on Austin's doorstep as well, just to add to the complication relationship he and Sierra are already navigating.
The story was well written, and lots of characters were introduced, but in a structured, not rushed, way. The character depth was definitely there, which is no mean feat with 8 main Mongomery siblings, plus their cousins, ring ins, spouses and children.
What was missing was the development of the relationship between Austin and Sierra. We go from their first date to several weeks later, and then another few weeks, until 2months have passed in a matter of chapters. I could see their chemistry and growing love for each other in what was written, but felt cheated that we didn't get that early development and care.
I did enjoy this read, but if that is the writing style then I'm reluctant to delve further into the series at this point in time.

Not too many things spell romance (or desperation) as well as a line like this:
"He knew it was time to actually find a woman to settle down with. If he wanted a future, a family, he was running out of time."
Yup, you know the person getting involved with this guy is going to feel real special.

I enjoyed the length of this one better then the first two shorter books. We got so much more character development.
Really liked the main characters and while there seemed to be lots going on in this book, I felt the author handled it rather well.
I feel there should have been a BDSM warning, I'm not really a fan of reading it, though having said that it wasn't really all that intense, though she was very submissive and a flogger was used, may be a trigger for some people???
While I did enjoy it and gave it a 3.5 star I'm not sure if I'll continue with this series.

Delicate Ink is book 1 in the Montgomery Ink books by Carrie Ann Ryan, in this first book we are introduced the the whole Montgomery clan and some cousins and best friends but the main couple in this story are Austin and Sierra. Austin Montgomery, tall well built and inked all over is a tattoo artist at Montgomery Ink a business he runs with his sister Maya. Austin is a dominant alpha male with a heart of gold and a pure love and loyalty for his family, the day Sierra walks into his shop both of their lives change for the better, well eventually after they stop fighting their feelings.

I've fallen in love with Austin he's the oldest of the 8 + 1 honorary Montgomery siblings he is part owner with his sister of Montgomery ink tattoo shop he is broody and goes thru women like underwear until Sierra a new business owner from across the street walks into his shop looking for a cover up tattoo once Austin meets her he needs to find out her story and protect her. There are ups and downs and they try to avoid their feelings for each other their life becomes a little more complicated when Austin finds out he has a son that he knew nothing about from a relationship 10 years ago.
I really like this book and can't wait for the second book.

While this novel held some BDSM it didn't take over the story; it added to it as it gives the reader an understanding of why Austin can't keep a girlfriend. It also explains why Maggie high tailed it away from him and kept her secret for ten years. Sienna is a good character dealing with a tragedy in her past and the resultant fall out. I enjoyed this book.

This wasn't too bad for a freebie. I grabbed it in the hope that this would also be a good series to get stuck into.
Delicate Ink was released in 2015 so when I got to parts where BDSM was imparted into the plot, I realised that this was probably because of the 50 shades influence because it just didn't fit. This story is told in third person and multiple pov's another thing I couldn't get my head around with such a long series, surely these additional characters get their own book at some point? It just got confusing and I am used to reading first person now, so to be honest I wrestled with this too much but was determined to finish.
This book had such potential but I am aware this is early work from Carrie Ann Ryan and I will have to read something current before deciding if I like this authors style, I need to know if she now writes first person?.
The plot, well, it was ok, Austin is a swoon worthy tattoo artist and Sienna has just set up her own business across the street selling clothing, a boutique.
Austin and Sienna have a frosty start when Sienna discovers Austins moody ways but they soon become friends then eventually more.
Sienna has no family and Austin has it in magnitudes with brothers, sisters, cousins, there's a whole big bunch of Montgomery's so it was heartwarming to see Sienna who had been through tough times and loss finally get a happy ending and finding love.
In summary a nice heartwarming story with hot scenes.

Too muddled

Very disappointed. Unlike some other reviewers I don't mind reading about doms but only if the book is well written and I didn't think this one was. One minute the author is trying to make us believe that Austin is a kick a** hard guy and the next he comes across as a complete wimp who runs away if life gets too tough.
And I simply could not keep up with all the characters - brothers, sisters, cousins, men as close as brothers but not actually blood relatives. Not to forget their partners & children, his parents, deeply annoying ex who won't leave him alone, nutty as fruitcake parents of current girlfriend's ex. And then a son he never knew anything about shows up out of the blue.
I totally agree with the other reviewer who said the author must have been going for quantity not quality. I downloaded this book for free but I would not bother paying for any others in this series.

Ok, so was this a great book? No, it wasn't but it was by no stretch of the imagination awful either.
There was a lot going on and you had to use some real brain power to remember all of the other 7 siblings of the Montgomery family as well as friends and partners and kids and, and, and...
There was a lot to the story and was by no means perfect but it was free so I enjoyed it. That sounds like a horrible thing to say but there are books that I've returned for less, so to me that is saying something. Will I remember this book, probably not but it was still interesting enough to keep me entertained for a few hours. With everything going on, I do have to say that Carrie Ann nailed the sex in this book, like some seriously hot stuff going on, and that probably saved it for me.
I'm intrigued by the author and am contemplating trying another book in either this series or another one but I won't be rushing to get there.
All in all I told probably say a solid 3.7 starts.

Good but the paranormal books are better
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 September 2016Verified Purchase
I read this after reading some of the author's paranormal books. (I do read various genres, so it's not a big deal). I have to say that I was a bit disappointed. It was almost as though they'd been written by someone else. The book was an okay read but not up to the same standard as the others I've read. In terms of the Dominant/Submissive nature of the relationship, it fell quite flat.
I think my other problem with the book was the dizzying number of characters we get introduced to. So, our hero has a big family, but we don't need to know quite so much about them in book 1. It felt a bit like information overload and I had trouble keeping them all straight. A more gradual introduction to them and their many issues over several books would have been better.
Don't get me wrong, it was an interesting enough read. I just feel that this author can do better. For now, I'll stick to her paranormal work.

A great multi character read
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 January 2016Verified Purchase
This story covers a lot of preconceptions about tattooed, bearded and muscled men, but you can't help but fall in love with Austin Montgomery in this read. Sierra has started a new life away from the past and all her painful memories. When she walks into Montgomery Ink with the intention of getting a tattoo she lets her initial judgement of their clientele irritate Austin Montgomery who in turn reacts to her statement. Austin is the eldest son if 8 siblings and co owner of Montgomery Ink, But both of them can't seem to get away from thinking about the other and what happens is a mutual feeling of want, need and eventually love but the course never runs smoothly does it??
I enjoyed this story, apart from the plot, & characters being good the overall feel was great. I loved the fact that there are so many characters to keep track of, as the Montgomery family are huge and stick together but it wasn't too overwhelming. This is part of a series so you'll meet each character as some point. There were a few grammatical errors but it doesn't take away from the story, lots of sex, descriptive and D/s relationships involved. There is lots of angst in various forms and revolving around a few characters. It is a romance so expect, protective, possessive and loving characters. Overall a nice read and would recommend.
