“Another enthralling investigative thriller… Arnold’s stories in this series reveal realistic investigative procedures and the characters are well developed. Her stories are well written and readers easily become drawn into the story line. Highly recommend.”
–My Book Reviews

When the victims have no voice…

The first victim was poisoned. Three others are missing. One turns up dead.

It’s almost Christmastime, but FBI agent and profiler Brandon Fisher and his team are packing their bags for Colorado to stop a serial killer. But they soon find out this might not be an easy case to solve as the killer’s method of operation keeps changing.

A look into the victims’ pasts reveals one commonality, though: they all beat charges of animal abuse. The killer, known as the Advocate, is inflicting the same treatment on them that they had allegedly committed against their animals. And while the job is all about finding justice, this investigation has the FBI team questioning who is on the right side—them or the murderer. But they’re going to have to get themselves together quickly if they’re going to catch a killer and return home for the holidays.

Brandon Fisher and the team are on the hunt for a serial killer who has taken the law into his own hands, killing those who abuse dogs but got off on technicalities in court. The team faces a moral dilemma, agreeing with the sentiment, if not the action of the killer. As the FBI close in the killer throws caution to the wind and ramps up his murder spree.

I really liked this addition to the Brandon Fisher series. It was a tight police procedural that read like a breeze. There were some slight technical issues; misused words and grammar issues, but all in all it's my favourite so far.

I totally recommend the series to anyone who likes a complicated murder mystery to read on their daily commute.

4.0 out of 5 stars How would YOU feel?? 23 November 2016

After reading another book (not long ago), with the same type of storyline, I still can’t get over applauding the man guilty of revenge! I find that so sad – but that is because I love animals so much. Never would I act on these feelings, of course, but I certainly desire – no, crave “justice” when I hear of these cases. It was a very interesting book though. We always know that these perpetrators will get caught in the end (in books anyway), but still I believe the book gives us a tad of satisfaction – isn’t that kind of sad. The book certainly kept my interest and I read it in two days. It was well written. A few spelling errors but not too bad. Enjoy!
5.0 out of 5 stars "Another Enthralling Investigative Thriller" 30 November 2015

This is another exciting stand-alone novel in the Brandon Fisher FBI Series. Being still a newly assigned agent to the FBI on probation, it's still a challenge for Brandon Fisher. He always works closely with the Supervisory Special Agent leader, Jack Harper. The team has been assigned to a serial killer case in Denver, Colorado, in the middle of winter. The killer is an advocate for vigilante justice finding and killing those who have abused animals. The method of his killing matches what the animal suffered in their abuse. When justice isn't served, he's the one who seeks retribution. Brandon's integrity to the bureau is tested in this episode, but he's up to the challenge even if it may involve team member, Agent Paige Dawson, as they fall in love with each other. They could both be relocated or fired if supervision becomes aware of their activities. Author Carolyn Arnold's stories in this series reveal realistic investigative procedures and the characters are well developed. Her stories are well written and readers can easily become drawn strongly into the story line. Highly recommend.

I went for a 4 Star rating because it seemed to drag onward a bit too long...gave me the feeling the author was trying to make a bit longer story.

Carolyn Arnold does a great job of keeping a reader involved in her books. This is the third book I have read. I enjoy sitting with a "Brandon" book and trying to figure out "who dunnit." Carolyn writes a great story to keep you attached to the book until you have read it. It's always a good read and hard to put down.

What a story! Page turner yes! The Advocate... the FBI trying to figure out why so many men were being murdered In such horrific ways. Well it seems they abused their pets and The Advocate could not let them get away with their actions. But trying to figure out just who The Advocate was kept me guessing.
Very good book!
