About the Author
Michelle Irwin has been many things: a hobbit taking a precious item to a fiery mountain; a young child stepping through the back of a wardrobe into another land; the last human stranded not-quite-alone in space three million years in the future; and a time-travelling madman in a box. All of these feats and many more were achieved through her voracious reading. Eventually, the cast inside her mind took over and spilled onto the page. Michelle lives in sunny Queensland in the land down under. A lover of love and overcoming the odds, she writes romance.

What I LOVED about this book was the complete honesty with which the main characters were written. They are teenagers, they do teenage things, and make teenage mistakes. I enjoyed that Alyssa dipped into whining, unreasonable female teenager territory on occasion. Readers can be so harsh on female characters so these traits and I find, more often than not, that the authors force their characters into more 'accepted lines' to avoid negative feedback. Michelle Irwin hasn't, and the result of her writing courage is a pair of hugely believable characters! This book had much to recommend it; romance, aspirations, solid world-building, and I think lovers of a complex and angst-ridden novel are in for a treat.

Strap in, get ready to start your engines and see where it all began.
From an early age, Declan Reede’s only goal was to race in the ProV8 Championship Series. One thing he couldn’t anticipate was that a blistering kiss shared with his best friend, Alyssa Dawson, might derail his plans.
While he knows things between them will never be the same, it’s impossible to predict just where the road will take them, or how rocky it might get.
Will he decide to fight for love or follow his dreams?
Michelle Irwin has a very catching and easy to read writing style that grabs your attention from the very get go and then she manages to get you keep you enthralled to the very end. The fact that she manages to get inside the head of a young rev head and tell his tale is magical.
Recommended to anyone over 18

This prequel has it all - teenage angst, first love, hopes and plans for the future without the bitter taint of disappointment, because Declan and Alyssa have their whole lives before them and everything seems possible. Even when their relationship hits trouble, Declan's very Aussie attitude of, "She'll be right, mate," holds true.
But when love clashes with hopes and dreams, it's hard to see what will win.
This is an introduction to Declan's series and I'm interested to see where Ms Irwin takes him next. He's such a classic Aussie teenager, worshipping his preferred sport and not understanding when his girl doesn't get it. It'll be interesting to see what happens as Declan grows into the man he'll eventually be.
A must-read for anyone who went to high school in Australia, sighed over a Holden V8 and can wax lyrical over the benefits of a VK over a VL, or vice versa.

Off to a great start with this young love romance. I love a great romance with a bit of angst thrown in and this, although only a glimpse of what's to come has me counting down the days until the release of the second instalment. In this we see two young childhood best friends Declan Reede and Alyssa Dawson fall in and out of love although I'm sure never really out of, just both too stubborn to fight hard enough to hold on to what they both had.
What will the future hold when they both seem to want different things in life or do they? I guess I'll find out when Decline is released to my iPad.

let me start by saying I reserve the right to change this rating once I have read the next book in the series.
Decide is a Novella and is the introduction to the Declan Reede Series.
Decide introduces us to Declan Reede and Alyssa Dawson who have been best friends since they were children but as they grow older, their relationship changes and they become more than friends.
Declan's dreams of becoming a V8 driver are coming to fruition but with his relationship with Alyssa on the line, will Declan choose Racing or the girl?
I enjoyed this book and I know I'm going to love the next books in this series (hence the first line of this review) but I did find both of the characters a bit selfish in this book... Alyssa didn't care at all about Declan's career dreams and Declan continuously put his driving over Alyssa... This, coupled with the on again / off again relationship irritated me a bit. With that said, I do also have to note the ages of the characters - this book focuses on the characters from small children until leaving high school, and kids that age ARE selfish.
Overall I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to getting to Know a grown up Declan Reede in Decline

What a tantalizing taste of the begining of Declan Reede's story. I was instantly drawn in, enthralled, captivated with the mind of Declan... it's not every day you get to read the thought's of a teenage boy, which I found I could strangly relate. We are all teenagers at one point in our lives. I loved Michelle's use of all things Australiana, it's wonderful to read about things in your own country. Who in Australia doesn't get a kick out of watching Bathurst in October??
Declan & Alyssa's on again, off again relationship, is like a rollercoster ride, but I could imagine with all the teenage hormones rearing things would be more emotional than normal. I found Declan's complete enthrallment with Alyssa through those troubling teen years to be fun to read, bringing back my own teenage years. But also Declan's dream is forever in the forefront of his mind, always trying to convince Alyssa that his dream can come true & he doesn't need anything to fall back on. Whereas Allyssa was the type of female lead you could definitely learn to love, but really teenage yearsare never fun for anyone, so she wasn't able to do any justice there. Don't get me wrong at times I did love her, I also loved Declan's character at times too, but at other times... I just wanted to smack their heads together.
Michelle has written an AMAZINGLY TANTALISING start to her new series "Declan Reede: The Untold Story" (HOW did Michelle get inside a teenage boys mind so well??)... I can't wait to read what happens next for Declan, I also HOPE Alyssa comes back, especially with the ending I just read (doesn't make me like Declan to much)... aaarrrggghh I have a love/hate relationship I think with Declan.

Declan and Alyssa have been best friends since they were kids. They are still best friends who have no secrets for each other but they now that they are in their teens, everything starts to change.
Declan starts to see Alyssa in a different light and realises that his feelings run deeper than friendship. It turns out that Alyssa feels the same way even though they don't always see eye to eye.
They have different goals for the future. Declan is set on making a career on the race tracks whilst Alyssa just wants to go to college and have a "normal" life. Are they mature enough to come to a compromise or will they decide to stick to their own plans?
They have lots of ups and downs throughout this novella and to make matters worse, Declan's father is trying to live his dreams through his son. No pressure there then!
I really like Declan as he is not really that bad. He does his best to make Alyssa happy but somehow doesn't always succeed. Alyssa is lovable too but shows no interest when it comes to Declan's ambitions.
This is the first book which I have read by this author and it's truly captivating. It's about true friendship, first love, rivalry and all the angst of being a teenager. Making the right decision at that age is tough! Will either of them see each other's view points and make allowances?
The other thing is, as this is related in Declan's POV, it's difficult to gage what is really going through Alyssa's mind. It will be interesting to see where this goes next, especially after the way it ends. Intriguing indeed!

Racy relationships
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 March 2016Verified Purchase
From the cover this was either going to be a novel about romance with a bit of racing or a novel about racing with a side order of passion.
Just to clarify which, this book mostly concerns the ups and downs of the relationship between the main character and his first girlfriend.
His aspiration to be a racing driver is well written and an important part of his life, but forms a secondary part of the story.
The couple concerned have a bit of a fiery on-off relationship, which makes for a more interesting read than if they just got on well all the time, although it is clear that they suit one another.
There is some sex, but it is a natural part of the story rather than anything gratuitous.
The highs and lows of teenage life with its petty embarrasments are well realised here.
This is the first of a series, so future instalments will show whether racing becomes a bigger element of the books, but in any case, if you enjoy this book, you will want to read more to find out what happens next between the couple.

I really enjoyed getting into the lives of Declan and his best friend Alyessa who soon turns into more through the course of the story. I love the way the author has captured the difficulties and dilemma's faced by teenagers falling in love and struggling as real life and ambition gets in the way!
I'm looking forward to reading the next parts of this series and learning more about Declan's racing career.
