A compendium of deaths in Zion National Park. In addition to what you'd expect to find in a book with this title (death by nature, foolhardiness) it also covers real wold demise - murder, vehicular, and work related in ZNP.
The author tries to liven up his characters by giving personality sketches. This succeeds to some extent but also assumes knowledge and motives about individuals that may or may to be the case.
On the whole this book is useful and interesting. The reminder that following advice and safe practices in the outdoors can almost ensure accident free visits to our national parks is good for all. Reading about dumb decisions and risky behavior underscores the cost associated with drawing outside of the lines and this is useful to casual visitors to the outdoors. The macabre fascination most find with high falls and canyon catastrophes is well satisfied by these stories.
