No trauma in the H’s life absolves him of raping and abandoning his bride. Said bride is not going to, years later, seek him out to become his mistress.
The H’s childhood trauma also doesn’t absolve him of belittling and mentally abusing the h in the name of insecurity. He repeatedly invades her privacy, which is NOT OK in any universe. His self-righteous anger at her “deception“ (aka “Surprise! I’m your wife!”) is a farce because a) he’s a rapist, and b) it’s his own damned fault he doesn’t remember his wife.
Finally, this book must have been written by a man because no woman, immediately after nearly being raped (later, and not quite a spoiler), would want to have sex immediately after.
An utterly repulsive tale with no character growth.
